Did you know that the first "person, firm, or corporation, or combination thereof," that manages to start up the first commercial oil well in Georgia wins a reward of $250,000?
Title 12, Chapter 4, Article 2, Part 1 (Oil Well Reward)
12-4-20 sets out the reward of $250,000
12-4-21 divvies it amongst the (1) property/mineral owners; (2) the company/person who drills it; (3) the contractor providing the equipment; and (4) the oil workers, who get the smallest share
12-4-22 authorizes the Governor to pay up out of the state surplus/contingent funds
The law was first put on the books in 1958 (Ga. L. 1958, p. 265, §1); Code Section 12-4-20 was amended slightly in 1983 (Ga. L. 1983, p. 514, §2).
To hell with Alaska! Why isn't anybody looking here? We're talking a quarter-million dollar reward baby! I'm getting a shovel to start digging up the Okefenokee!
