I live in the Bay Area, and I would be positively delighted to meet up with you in Oakland, except that I happen to be in Minnesota doing research at a monastic library for the next week and a half. Dammit.

Yikes, I do live in the Bay Area but not sure what is happening family wise. Let me check and see if I can swing something, because if you're in Oakland Friday night it would be HELL of fun to get together. You have my cell, right?

Hey, do you know any more re if you can get together Friday night? There is a twist. I am still in Mountain View (things ran late so I stayed here instead of trekking to Oakland tonight). So I either need to go to Oakland tomorrow morning and then go with my uncle to Sacramento, or I can come up in the afternoon and spend time with you... but my uncle would be already gone, so I'd need to spend the night with you too. Which is know would be a lot to ask on short notices esp when your house is in the middle of remodels and all. I'd call but it's way too late, but let's get in touch tomorrow morning to figure it out one way or another.

Also, I bring hugs from scheming_reader!

I would love to have you stay but it's impossible. We are currently in three rooms as rest of house is completely torn apart. And bathroom facilities are less than, um, subline. ::Tears out hair::

So it doesn't look like this is going to work? Sigh.

Are you free at all tomorrow evening? If I go to Sacramento with my uncle tonight, perhaps we could get together for a bit tomorrow?

Caltrain runs from Palo Alto to San Francisco. BART runs from San Francisco to Oakland. To get between Caltrain and BART is a longish walk or a short Muni ride. I don't know the schedules of any of these services, though.

Thank you! This is, in fact, exactly what I did. I took Caltrain to San Francisco (terminus), walked about a mile up 4th St., and took the BART from Powell out to Oakland. It was a pleasant walk (and the only SF-proper I saw all weekend), and I made it to Oakland right on time for when my uncle needed us to leave (for spending that night in Sacramento). Perfect.
