What I did with my Saturday morning

Jun 23, 2007 17:16

Usually, on Saturday mornings I'm asleep. Today, I was up before 5 and out the door, because today's the day the building I used to work in, along with two others, was moved two blocks up the street, and that's not a sight you want to sleep through.

Yes, you read right. Big old houses, moving two blocks up Mass Ave in Harvard Square. They had to close the street for it, and take down the wires that the electric trolleys use, and all the signposts that are normally stuck in the median. The two larger houses straddled the median for part of the trip.

Anyway, check out the photoset if you've ever wanted to see what houses moving down a normally busy street looks like. The second building (Baker House) is where I used to work. My office was in the space with the bay windows in this photo. More info about the shenanigans at the Globe, HLS News, and the HLS Northwest Corner site.
