Waking as a human was a process, as though Motoko's consciousness were loading, and the operating system was a slow one. That was why it took her several seconds to remember she was human. She was disoriented, her injured hand hurt like hell, and the downside of being able to taste things was that her mouth now tasted like something had died in it.
None of that seemed to be going away on its own, and reluctantly, she opened her eyes and tried to decide if it was worth getting out of bed.
