Careful When You Open (It's Easy to be Broken)
So Chase had been affected by the parasite.
The explained everything, Kage decided as he made his way back to the infirmary, his mind skittering back to the memory of his naked concern for the blonde and then having it thrown, painfully, back in his face with a firm, callous rejection on Chase's part.
Kage's expression didn't change as he walked down the corridor and back towards the sickbay. Really, he had to remember that Chase was a passenger and, as such, couldn't be counted on. Passengers weren't as hardy as crew were, they could only see what Redd wanted them to see instead of what really was and they were dangerously vulnerable to many of the parasites and influences of the ship--hell, they couldn't even survive off the ship like crew could.
These were the things that First Mate Kage told himself as he opened the door and stepped in. AMU seemed to be gone, and Kage ambled over to where Chase was restrained. He looked down at the blonde--one of the only people he'd call friend on board. One of the only passengers who'd known Even.
Even thinking the name Even made Kage's heart compact painfully in his chest and he shoved any thoughts of the man away with practiced ease.
Kage patted Chase's face.
"Hey. Shithead. Wake up. Zeshat fuckin' wept, didn't you ever hear of condoms? Wrap it in plastic or you'll catch somethin'. Again."
