By this point, Link had already gathered all of his remaining items. There was no point in wandering around anymore, he knew, but it was difficult to sit in his room all alone for very long. He felt restless when did-- and yet, when he got up to go do something all of his energy left him. He'd taken finally to just going wherever he could that would include avoiding anyone he didn't want to face at the moment, maybe to the giant bees... people seemed scared of them, but they haven't attacked him yet.

He saw a man up ahead, heading in the opposite direction as him, and the momentary lack of concentration directed towards getting his weak legs to work cost him their failure. Link didn't even realize he'd tripped before his chin hit the floor and he bit his tongue, tasting some blood, and after Wednesday night it was enough to almost make him sick. He pulled himself onto his knees, rubbing his chin shakily with one arm and somehow not even capable of hoping no one saw.

His intention to give the child no more than a short nod as he passed quickly vanished as he saw the child topple to the ground. Even then, as Tony saw him push himself up onto his knees, saw the slightest hint of blood at the corner of his mouth, even then Tony was tempted to ignore him, to keep going, to pass him by without even the slightest glance.

But something- the overwhelming strength that long-held habits had, perhaps- made him call out, "Bloody hell, you alright?", made him stop and crouch next to him. Old habits die hard, it would seem.

Oh, so he had been noticed. He blushed a little, only then realizing how embarrassing that was, and he immediately looked away-- he knew it was rude, and he'd feel bad about it on any other week but this one. But... right now, his rare words wouldn't come at all, and his head was too heavy to nod. He did't know what to do besides wipe the blood from his mouth with a trembling breath, avoiding looking at the man crouching beside him out of humiliation and halfheartedness.

Oh, this was bloody perfect- what'd the kid have, a concussion? Tony, his patience already not the strongest that day (never mind the fact that he had little to no patience with children on a normal day), felt his hold on his temper slip a notch. Already he regretted stopping, regretted not just walking on by without saying a word.

"Hey. Hey. Kid, I asked you a question. You alright? D'you need a doctor or something?"

The tone of voice startled him enough that he looked up, eyes widened slightly-- did he really upset the man that much? He didn't need a doctor, no, but shaking his head would only be more confusing when asked more than one question. He opened his mouth to try and force out an "I'm fine", he could at least do that, surely? And yet, the moment he did attempt it, it was if his throat closed up to refuse him access to his own voice.

He felt incredibly guilty then, he must have been so rude. He pushed himself up to stand somewhat feebly, but at least he managed it-- it wasn't much, really, but at least something if he couldn't even bring himself to look again, suddenly. He felt so awkward.

Feeling his patience wearing thinner and thinner by the second, Tony stared at Link as his mouth opened, stayed open, and then closed. Forehead creasing, the last grains of patience dribbled away as Tony watched him stand up and look away from him.

"Christ, kid, are you serious?" Past thinking, he reached out, shoving Link back and away from himself, before standing up. "It's not that hard of a question. Just give me a bloody answer."

He bent forward, just enough so that he was able to roughly grab Link by the shoulders and lift him bodily into the air, giving him a vigorous shake or two. Tony's intent wasn't quite clear- perhaps he meant to shake an answer from him, or maybe he was just getting rid of some bottled up frustration. Nevertheless, here they were and here was what was happening.

Walking gave Mimmi some time to think. She'd been wandering aimlessly for a while, all over the boat, with no clear destination in sight. She was trying to sort everything out in her head as best as possible, and it was working. But she was still frustrated. And she was still tired. And she was still depressed. It probably wouldn't get better too soon. So she kept walking.

And as she walked down deck 5, she was drawn out of her revere by the sight of Tony, which wasn't very interesting at first, until she saw he was shaking someone. A child someone. She stood there rooted to the spot, her chest tightening. A surge of rage bubbled in her stomach, but it calmed. She rolled back her shoulders and fixed the back of Tony's head with an icy glare, almost predatory. When she spoke her voice was calm, but held a subtle accusatory and livid tone.

"What are you doing?"

The shove was what threw him off the most-- he stumbled back with a bewildered look, rendered even more speechless than before. Before he could completely process what Tony was doing he was in the air and being shaken, and immediately he froze, an expression of terror and confusion taking hold because this was not what he needed right now, he didn't even understand how he had been rude enough to provoke this kind of behaviour at all. His hands flew to his face with a whimper; whatever he'd done he was sorry, he'd make himself say it out loud if the man would just stop shaking him.

He realized then that he was trembling on his own and he felt sickened; he was so pathetic right then, he should have never left his room, he should have just ignored the man and never tripped. He was certain like he was going to be ill if he wasn't put down soon, he would be. Just not now, he really couldn't do this, and he was so caught up in trying to calm down that he didn't register the presence of another voice until "--doing?", and he thought ( ... )

"What are you doing?"

Hearing the words, Tony stiffened and ceased his shaking of Link. He half turned, then seemed to think about it and released his hold on the child, letting him drop to the floor before he turned fully to face Mimmi. Damn kids were always causing problems.

"I, uh- he tripped. Fell right on his face. I tried to see if he was alright, but I couldn't get an answer out of him. So that's what I was doing- trying to get him to talk. Just a yes or no would do." He stopped, spreading his hands and shrugging. "Really, it's his own fault."

"He tripped." Mimmi didn't quite buy that explanation of his. Mimmi glowered and walked toward him. "He tripped? And you thought shaking him would help the situation?"

Mimmi's gaze left Tony briefly to rest on Link, hoping he was all right. She would have helped him, but she wanted to deal with Tony first. She looked back up at him.

"You could have hurt him."

He wasn't expecting to be dropped so abruptly, and when he was his knees gave out to deposit him awkwardly on the floor. He finally understood that there was actually another person, which would probably explain why the man let go of him so quickly. He felt... invasive, listening to this argument-- being mentioned like that made him even more uncomfortable, but there wasn't like there was anything he could to avoid it. Walking away probably wasn't an option, and he felt jarred enough that he was too worried he would embarrass himself further by standing up and falling down again.

He definitely shouldn't have left his room. Having to confront people right then would have been better than walking into a situation he wouldn't be capable of handling very well at the moment.

"Hurt him? Mimmi, sweetheart, I think you're overreacting a bit." Tony reached a hand out towards her, then dropped it, rethinking his action. Instead, he spread his hands out, shoulders moving the barest inches up and down in a shrug. "I think you just walked in at the wrong time, darling, didn't see the whole of the situation. I think it's best we all just walk away now, before the whole thing gets blown out of proportion, eh?"

"Nein! You were shaking a child! Only a dirty pig would dare harm a child. How dare you touch him!"

"You apologize to him, right now!" She pointed at Link, gave him a small smile, and continued to watch Tony. He wasn't slipping away that easily if she could help it.

The angry lady had an accent he'd never heard before, now that he was actually listening to what she had to say. He wondered dimly what it might be until she pointed at him, which made him wince away automatically. He noticed too late that she was smiling, and he realized he should probably smile too, tried to attempt it, failed spectacularly, and finally saw she wasn't looking anymore. Deciding that sitting on the floor was only making him look more pitiful, he put his hand on the wall and pulled himself up slowly, expression caught between bemused and concerned.

Did they know each other? He was getting the impression that they knew each other, and flushed apologetically. He'd feel really bad if they got angry at one another because of him...

"Alright, now you're overreacting more than a bit." Tony's tone, which had at least been friendly before, suddenly changed, becoming tenser, darker. "I didn't harm him, I gave him a little shake. There's a big bloody difference between the two. He's fine."

He swept an indicative hand to the side in Link's direction, turning slightly. "See? No harm done. And now, I'll be leaving. Goodbye, Mimmi."

With a dismissive wave, he turned away from her.

Mimmi clenched her hands into fists.

"Do not walk away," she hissed, marching around him. Her plan was to cut him off, so he couldn't go anywhere. She turned to face him and pointed a finger at his chest.

"I told you to apologize!"
