The shove was what threw him off the most-- he stumbled back with a bewildered look, rendered even more speechless than before. Before he could completely process what Tony was doing he was in the air and being shaken, and immediately he froze, an expression of terror and confusion taking hold because this was not what he needed right now, he didn't even understand how he had been rude enough to provoke this kind of behaviour at all. His hands flew to his face with a whimper; whatever he'd done he was sorry, he'd make himself say it out loud if the man would just stop shaking him.

He realized then that he was trembling on his own and he felt sickened; he was so pathetic right then, he should have never left his room, he should have just ignored the man and never tripped. He was certain like he was going to be ill if he wasn't put down soon, he would be. Just not now, he really couldn't do this, and he was so caught up in trying to calm down that he didn't register the presence of another voice until "--doing?", and he thought miserably that it must have been directed towards him. It made sense; this man was mad at him, there must have been a reason?

"What are you doing?"

Hearing the words, Tony stiffened and ceased his shaking of Link. He half turned, then seemed to think about it and released his hold on the child, letting him drop to the floor before he turned fully to face Mimmi. Damn kids were always causing problems.

"I, uh- he tripped. Fell right on his face. I tried to see if he was alright, but I couldn't get an answer out of him. So that's what I was doing- trying to get him to talk. Just a yes or no would do." He stopped, spreading his hands and shrugging. "Really, it's his own fault."

"He tripped." Mimmi didn't quite buy that explanation of his. Mimmi glowered and walked toward him. "He tripped? And you thought shaking him would help the situation?"

Mimmi's gaze left Tony briefly to rest on Link, hoping he was all right. She would have helped him, but she wanted to deal with Tony first. She looked back up at him.

"You could have hurt him."

He wasn't expecting to be dropped so abruptly, and when he was his knees gave out to deposit him awkwardly on the floor. He finally understood that there was actually another person, which would probably explain why the man let go of him so quickly. He felt... invasive, listening to this argument-- being mentioned like that made him even more uncomfortable, but there wasn't like there was anything he could to avoid it. Walking away probably wasn't an option, and he felt jarred enough that he was too worried he would embarrass himself further by standing up and falling down again.

He definitely shouldn't have left his room. Having to confront people right then would have been better than walking into a situation he wouldn't be capable of handling very well at the moment.

"Hurt him? Mimmi, sweetheart, I think you're overreacting a bit." Tony reached a hand out towards her, then dropped it, rethinking his action. Instead, he spread his hands out, shoulders moving the barest inches up and down in a shrug. "I think you just walked in at the wrong time, darling, didn't see the whole of the situation. I think it's best we all just walk away now, before the whole thing gets blown out of proportion, eh?"

"Nein! You were shaking a child! Only a dirty pig would dare harm a child. How dare you touch him!"

"You apologize to him, right now!" She pointed at Link, gave him a small smile, and continued to watch Tony. He wasn't slipping away that easily if she could help it.

The angry lady had an accent he'd never heard before, now that he was actually listening to what she had to say. He wondered dimly what it might be until she pointed at him, which made him wince away automatically. He noticed too late that she was smiling, and he realized he should probably smile too, tried to attempt it, failed spectacularly, and finally saw she wasn't looking anymore. Deciding that sitting on the floor was only making him look more pitiful, he put his hand on the wall and pulled himself up slowly, expression caught between bemused and concerned.

Did they know each other? He was getting the impression that they knew each other, and flushed apologetically. He'd feel really bad if they got angry at one another because of him...

"Alright, now you're overreacting more than a bit." Tony's tone, which had at least been friendly before, suddenly changed, becoming tenser, darker. "I didn't harm him, I gave him a little shake. There's a big bloody difference between the two. He's fine."

He swept an indicative hand to the side in Link's direction, turning slightly. "See? No harm done. And now, I'll be leaving. Goodbye, Mimmi."

With a dismissive wave, he turned away from her.

Mimmi clenched her hands into fists.

"Do not walk away," she hissed, marching around him. Her plan was to cut him off, so he couldn't go anywhere. She turned to face him and pointed a finger at his chest.

"I told you to apologize!"

Oh, so they did know each other? He shrunk away when the man gestured towards him, wishing he had the voice to say that it was fine (it wasn't really, but he didn't want them to get in any bigger of a fight!), yet also having the distinct impression that he wasn't meant to interrupt this.

He backed up a little to try and avoid getting in the way, watching with extreme discomfort and steadily growing guilt.

A LIKELY STORY suave_liar August 6 2010, 21:58:44 UTC
"Mimmi, stop. Just stop." The anger he had regained control of was quickly surfacing again, and he closed his eyes tightly for a moment, sucking in a breath and releasing it. "I'm really not in the mood for this right now, alright? Now move."

There was no real stopping Mimmi at this point. Everything negative she'd been feeling that past several weeks was completely directed at Tony. Whether he really deserved it was debatable, but she was fully convinced he did deserve it.

"Not until you apologize, scheisskopf."

Yeah, he was pretty certain this was a bad predicament now. Fidgeting in anxiety, he backed up a little more, wondering if he could just make a run for it-- but he still felt awful, and he thought he should apologize for making them fight. He paused again, alarmed by the angry lady's tone of voice and wondering whether or not she was going to hit someone. That might possibly end up bad.

Tony stared at her silently for a moment, another moment, another, before something cold settled in his eyes. "Mimmi, I'm giving you five seconds to move. D'you understand?"

And he waited.

Five.

Four.

Three.

Two.

One.

Unsurprisingly, she didn't move. He hadn't really expected to, with how worked up she was. No matter- he'd make her move. And that was what he did, shoving her unceremoniously to the side and resuming his walk down the hall, not even sparing her a glance.

Mimmi stumbled and almost fell over, but she caught her balance and stomped after Tony quickly. When she'd caught up enough she stopped, took the shoe off her left foot, and threw it as hard as she could at the back of Tony's head.

"Komm hier her zurück, Drecksau."

He gasped when Tony pushed Mimmi aside, suddenly angry himself-- she didn't do anything but ask him to apologize, he couldn't do that! He almost ran after Ton himself to try and stop himself, but halted when Mimmi took off her shoe. having a vague idea of what was about to happen did not prepare him for Mimmi actually throw the shoe at his head, and Link's hands flew to his mouth with a cry of surprise and mounting horror. Why would she do that?! Now the man would only be even angrier!
