I wish I had the words to describe the time I am having here adequately. I cannot even express how amazing this experience is for me. I have made wonderful friends in the three short weeks I have been here. My classes are going well, but one is rather difficult for me. I am taking a caribbean literature class that is taught in Spanish. my professor does not speak any English. It is an interesting class but I have to read a lot of literature and then have discussions about the themes and symbolism in the readings. It is difficult enough for me to read and comprehend the stories alone, then I actually have to discuss them. That class will take the most work.
I am taking Spanish grammer, caribbean culture, African Heritage, and caribbean literature. I am also going to start teaching English next week in a really poor neighboorhood about an hour out of the city. It is a busy schedule but a lot of fun. I am learning a lot about cultural differences and about things we take for granted in the US, like electricity.
I would love to write more, but I need to get started on my homework. I have a spanish paper due tomorrow that was assigned today. It is on contamination in the Dominican Republic. Exciting stuff.
Hugs to all
