Life here is so different here than in the US and I am loving every minute of it. It is so nice to just be away. I am making a bunch of friends here and even though it has only been a week and a half it seems like we have known each other forever.
I really think this has been then best choice I have ever made in my entire life. I am happy here. Yay!
I am going to start teaching English this week in a school that is in a really poor district in Santo Domingo. That is what I decided to do for my community service project.
My classes are going well so far. Tonight I am going to a cock fight for my Caribbean Culture class. I really do not want to go, but I am trying to have open mind about it. I think it is cruel and greusome, but here it is a very popular pastime so I am trying to accept it. Honestly, I think it might make me sick to my stomach.
I went to a baseball game the other day and it was crazy. I have never been to a stadium so packed with everybody cheering and waving flags in support for the teams. It was really exciting. One of the players at bat got a pitch to the jaw and it dropped him flat on the ground. The game was delayed for a little while. I am still not sure if he is okay.
I have been going out to a lot of dance clubs and they are so much fun here. I thought college kids knew how to party, but these Dominicans really know how to party.
Everyday I meet one of my friends that lives on the same street as me and we travel to school together. so this happened a few days ago: When we met she told me that a car had been following her for a few blocks. I told her to just ignore the car, but he kept on following us so I looked over to yell at him to leave us alone and I see him wacking off. Yeah. It was disgusting.
Then yesterday as I was walking through the park with my friend Carrie we saw another man doing the same thing. I would be more than perfectly content if strange men would quit masturbating out in the open.
