one of my favorite authors, thanks to my college location

cnn has a great article on lowell mass and it's connection to jack kerouac today - it took me back a little. i remember when this barnes and noble was even built, back when i was still going to school there. we were all a little bummed that they weren't putting a new bar in that building downtown, but it was a nice bookstore anyways.

i lived across the street from his boyhood home in my very first college apartment, and got to walk by the park where he wrote/though up/experienced part of his books every day on the way to class. i took literature of the beat movement, and even got to meet allen ginsburg face to face, getting a signed copy of howl and a really freaky conversation out of it. we had poetry readings where half the class was high and it seemed ok with the teacher (even though she really didn't 'know) because it was all in the spirit of the era, complete with bongos and saxiphones.

it really was one of the coolest parts of my college experience. and that's today's trip down memory lane. :P
