So, we had an open air church service yesterday - big one, all local churches together. Protestant, catholic, baptist, we even had a visit from the local muslim parish, even if they didn't participate. So, over a thousand people in the stadium, the choir sings, the priests and pastors were having a blast, all is well. Along comes the hymn "Geh aus mein Herz" ("Go forth my heart and seek delight"). Usually you sing two or three verses. This time, eight, because they did collection during the song, and I guess they needed to draw it out :-)
So I sing along, more or less happily, when I stumble over a verse I swear I have NEVER sung before. And I kid you not, the literal translation would be about the "lustful cries of sheeps and their shepherds". Cue ele staring in disbelief and slightly sputtering while singing. And lo and behold, the song is finished, and my dad leans in, points to the lyrics and says completely deadpan: "I wonder what they were doing exactly."
Ladies and gentlemen, this is why I love my dad. :-)
And I have the perfect excuse for my mind being in the gutter. Obviously it's inherited!
Also, I have a slight sunburn. On my arms and the right side of my face. But everything was worth it for seeing one of our pastors wearing a bright yellow baseball cap and a t-shirt saying "I am part of God's ground crew." He's awesome. :-)
