One of my closest supporters and allies here in SF received some seriously disturbing news last week about her host family from her two years spent volunteering and working in Madagascar. As it turned out, they were robbed of their entire savings and merchandise of the small store they own, and in a truly challenged developing economy, there remains little hope of recovery. My friend is committed to raising a few much-needed dollars to help her host family get back on their feet. I am looking into the possible tax deductibility of this type of donation, but if you just need something to feel good about in the meantime, consider helping out :)
