I haven't posted here in forever, even though I check to see if anyone else has posted. But going back thru some of my old posts to pass a link to someone else reminds me of all the stuff I've done. I need to get back on these things.
Our Baronial A& S championship is in 4 weeks, the theme is accessories. I'm going to go with "headgear" and "recycled garments". I have a hood that is complete - just needs some embellishment. An elizabethan nightcap that needed the rest of the embroidery, a bunch of which I did during the day at Coronation 2 weeks ago. And I want to do a St. Birgitta's Cap. In fact, I might to several, to try out various size/cut variations, but with no decorative scalp seam, then one that is fancy. I'm curious how many various hats, coifs, veils, etc I can complete in 4 weeks. Using only recycled garments - I have tons of garments, and the kids are getting too big to make complete garb outfits out of recycled modern clothes anymore.
I'm going to only enter items that could be considered "arts" - not any "sciences". This is a baronial championship, and I am also encouraging newer people to enter - so I don't want to use my "Silver Hammer of Doom" on them.(Ha, Ha!) My "Arts" awards are a Golden Calon Swan, Calontir's AoA level Arts award for "promise in costuming" awarded 9 Nov 1991, and a Baronial-level A&S award from Mag Mor 23 Aug 2008 called the "Adharc Or" (I can't remember if it mentioned any specific activity.) I can't remember if I got any A&S awards from Three Rivers.
Does anyone have a favorite type of headgear they want to challenge me to make? I needs to be "Artsy" - so no crowns, leather, or metal stuff. I'm not sure about netting - string manipulation/weaving is seen as science by some, and art by others. But sewing & embroidery for sure.
Any examples of painted headgear? Perhaps a mask? But I'd rather stuff I could/would use eventually.
Links to images gladly accepted.
And I need to borrow some wig heads.
