something old

Heya, its me, about to beat a dead horse, tuck an analogy up under my arm and run away with it.

Water is water/power is power--- yet, all rivers are not the same.

Once upon a time, there was a land, Vast and Beautiful, filled with deep valleys and rivers that lead down to the sea. There were Hundreds of rivers, some had many rapids, just on the one coast, and many tribes had boats.(and rafts and inner-tubes) and some of them were really good sailors.

They All used to sail across the Ocean and trade with the kingdoms there, who had much wisdom and wealth.

---but there was an Empire to the south that wanted to control All the trade and All the water--(They even claimed the Other Kingdoms did not exist at all!)-They killed anyone who they found on "their water", so boat building gradually
declined.

-There was one family, part of a tribe that lived along the banks of One river,(They kept mostly to themselves,) and learned how to make "really good boats".
--They used to trade with the Other Kingdoms, and loved to sail upon the sea--They were much persecuted by the empire. In self defense they 'hid' their river. Anyone who wanted to learn to build 'illegal boats' was Adopted into the Family, and had to promise Never to reveal the river,(which was now hidden by rapids) and encouraged to go sailing mostly at night.

Eventually, the Empire to the south got less militant, and stopped killing people who didn't belong to it, so the people of the valley stopped sailing at Night.
(Except the ones who loved sailing by starlight.)

Some of them traded up and down the coast,--and found a demand for good boats.
Even though there were Lots of boats out there, many were not as good as the ones the family sailed.

One enterprising member of the family published the plans to the families style of boats- Later, others taught workshops on boat building. ---(and if people were Good at boat building, some times they brought them 'home to the folks', and showed them the valley)

Some of the Family members were dismayed by this--they were used to being able to tell their kin from the style of the boat.

But the Worst was yet to come. Some people started claiming to be family members--Just because they could sail---(or because they had been through some rapids) and accused the family of being like the Empire, because they didn't reveal the river, (that they had been Sworn to protect.)

Now, these others *Could* have sailed their Own rivers.-Could have explored the Vastness of the sea. (Which the family had *Never* said that it that it owned)
Instead they spent their time whining, or
pretending to be family, or telling other people how 'mean' the family were.

Now, some people ask if it is not possible to find the valley, to negotiate the rapids without aid of a family member.
---It Might be possible, but the odds are against it,and the Family will probably still want to adopt you if you do---why not do it the old fashioned way?

I hope that you enjoyed my little story-
I bid you all,
Good Sailing!, and,
Good Hunting!,
