Ah yes, the first significant snowfall of the season, and like the swallows returning to Capistrano, the bitching and brainlessness starts right on cue. Not an incomprehensible thing, but the predictability of it always amazes me. There were certainly senior moments out on the road last night, as everyone (myself included) relearned the lighter touch needed for winter driving. Not to mention some outright inexplicable idiocy, like the SUV lady who made a left-hand turn from the right-hand lane across incoming traffic into a parking lot. That was so weird I just had to laugh.
The new car made the long drive home much more pleasant. It had traction. The seat and steering wheel were comfortable. The heater was strong. And I had Ween in the CD player. I was able to shake my head in mirthful resignation at the traffic, rather than shake my fist in sullen rage.
Shoveled the sidewalk at around 10:00 last night. Usually, I would recommend doing it at that time. You don't have to contend as much with pedestrians and inane comments from neighbors. But I was a bit taken aback to wake up to just as much snow as I had shoveled the night before. It had kept snowing, just at such a slow, diffuse rate with such tiny snowflakes that I didn't realize it was still snowing. Strange. Plus I had the "lovely" experience of having the snowplow block off the alley again. Clearing that blockage usually falls to me, but I just powered through with the car. The pickup wouldn't have been able to do that, so I was a bit smug.
Switched the insurance over this morning. Somewhat disgruntled that my rate has gone up. I'm blaming the longer commute I now have.
Going to try and get some of the dreaded Xmas shopping done tonight. I'm thinking of hitting Half Price Books. It'll depend on the roads.
