Contrary to popular belief, I did do things this week other than recap CONvergence. I bought a new remote control for my TV, and I saw Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. So, um, yeah, I did two other things. The only thing I disliked about Order of the Phoenix was the opening scene, where Harry gets bullied by Dudley and his gang. Daniel Radcliffe has matured rather a great deal, and all I could think was "oh c'mon, Harry would totally kick Dudley's ass." But it was an amusing sort of dislike. I really like this one, it didn't feel like someone just photocopied the book and projected it on a screen.
Oh, and I got a bit freaked about how much there is left to do with Masks of the Illuminati. "To freak" is a verb, so that would count as a third thing I've done. Getting off book would be a start, don't you think?
Some dates, for whatever reason, become magnets for cool things to do. Some disturbance in the cosmic forces or whatever. But anyway, there's always a day in which a ton of fun stuff piles up, forcing regrettable and brutal decision making. The most recent date for this phenomenon is Saturday the 21st. There's the grand opening of
saracura and
alisgray's store. There's the art car parade on Lake and Lyndale. There's
433 backyard movie showing of Bio-Zombie. The MISFITs/CONvergence volunteer appreciation party is that evening. And I think there's some music or theatre of note happening as well, my brain is just too full to remember it. But I'm going to ignore it all for booze.
10000comicbooks and
patguy have chosen that date for their annual bar crawl. It's a major event on a par with CONvergence as one of my yearly highlights, so drink I must. My regrets to all other parties.
