I never saw a whole movie at Omegacon. In general, I feel like I'm going to miss out on key socialization and memorable conversations if I'm watching DVDs for a sizeable chunk of the weekend. But I saw a reasonable hunk of Cars, enough to see others who were skeptical of the whole NASCAR vibe the film has relax and enjoy it.
I also saw some of The Pirate Movie, enough to feel comfortable that this may be the worst movie musical ever made. Yes, worse than Xanadu and probably worse that Can't Stop The Music or The Apple (I'm going out on a limb here as I haven't seen the latter two, but I okay with making a presumptive guess.) Xanadu has a bezerk, WTF quality that can be oddly compelling, and (I may be alone here) a sense that if you dug through all the surface garbage there was a basic idea that could have been cool. The Pirate Movie is just wrong from the word go. Hey, let's fuse Gilbert & Sullivan with Eighties synthpop geared to 10-year-old girls! Oh lord, it was terrible. You just have to check out the "Pumpin' and Blowin'" number to see exactly how terrible (it may be on YouTube, it's really... memorable.)
TV-wise, I had the pleasure of watching a sizeable crowd get exposed to The Venture Brothers for the first time. I also forgot how bizarre and disturbing H.R. Pufnstuf is. That show warped a whole generation. There was also some laughing at Wonder Showzen, but I think this broad parody of a kid's show would get monotonous after a couple episodes.
