Once again, we had one of our quasi-regular gatherings at
stark0228's place to watch TiVOed episodes of Justice League. At some point, after watching still pictures of Joe Kubert art of the Viking Prince, and an animated Diana Prince transforming into Wonder Woman in that Lynda Carter spinny starburst way, I realized I wasn't watching an animated series based on the DC comic book universe so much as DC comic book universe porn. Sweet holy crap I love this show. They even make Grodd seem not silly.
We also watched the Teen Titans episodes that guest starred the Doom Patrol. It was a lot better than I remember that show being. The lack of uber-wacky distorted anime-style comic relief might have been a factor.
Also caught the Smallville episode that guest starred their equivalent of Aquaman. It was... it was what it was. I've never really gotten Smallville. I don't need OC lathered all over my superheroes. But it was okay. There were some injokes I appreciated, and they kind of justified why the heck Aquaman was wearing orange and green (he's a U of Miami student) and what the heck he was doing in British Columbia Kansas (he's an ecofreak investigating fish kills caused by Lexcorp). But I couldn't shake the feeling that the Aquaman appearance was a big excuse to put the female cast in swimsuits (not a bad thing exactly). And y'know, Aquaman really shouldn't be more buff than Superman. That's just kind of wrong.
A lot of social options tonight. Too many cool things are happening at once these days. A birthday party will definitely win out for the last half of the evening, but I'm not sure what to do for the first half.
