Remembering a Soldier

May 26, 2006 10:00

Josiah Kaehele was a friend of mine. He taught me that if you are yourself, unappealing as you may think that is, there is a great girl out there somewhere who will dig it. Kaehele was one of my Javelin missile gunners during the war, and he was selected to be a part of the BDE CSM's Personal Security Detail during this last deployment, so I got to hang out with him again. Kaehele was tough as coffin nails; he had scars all over his body; but he never got snippy or talked back or caused trouble for the unit. It's rare to have a free-thinking guy who fights against the Man without doing it in a way that causes trouble for his chain of command. I hope he knew that I really appreciated it.

So once again, I ask you, my friends, to join me in raising a glass to our fallen comrades.
