Ok, so the fitting for Marmie's bodice didn't go so well. Everything is good except for the sleeve area. I used the pagoda sleeve pattern from Period Costume for Stage and Screen. Now, this is pretty much a straight sleeve head, no curve. I thought it would work ok with a normal-ish armscye, and maybe even allow more range of motion. WRONG! VERY WRONG!
The sleeve is pulling the shoulder seam down over her shoulder in true Civil War fashion, but with the effect that she can't. move. her. arms. I think the armholes need to be cut a little bit bigger all the way around, and I'm going to finish ripping off the sleeves and cut a regular curved sleeve head into them. I'm assuming the problem is that with the top of the sleeve not having a curve, all the pull/force/weight of the sleeve is hanging off the top of the shoulder, instead of being distributed around the whole armscye.
Er, does any of this sound plausible?
I also need to move a couple of buttons over on the front closure, but thatr's no big deal.
