EVANSVILLE, United States (AFP) - American Kevin Payne died after winning a non-title welterweight bout here at the weekend, organisers said.
Organisers added an inquiry would be made into the circumstances of Payne's death after the fighter suffered brain injuries following his points victory over Ryan Maraldo in an eight-round contest on Saturday night.
After the fight, Payne felt faint and had to be helped out of the ring and was immediately taken to hospital where he had emergency brain surgery.
The 34-year-old fighter, who was married with two children, had a record of 14 victories, five defeats and one draw, and was due to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr next month.
WTF!!! How many more boxers have to die of brain injuries until somebody finally decides to ban boxing as a sport??? I mean come on, can we really call this a sport? Do people really get a kick out of watching 2 individuals beat the living crap out of each other in order to get some money? How sick is our society when we get a kick out of this and pay to watch this. And then we complain about muggings and killings each day. How much different are muggers from boxers? I mean in all honesty muggers beat the living crap out of people or even kill them in order to get some money. Isn't that what boxers do? The only difference is that people actually pay to watch boxers! The poor victims are the boxers who train and practice and get into this "sport" in order to try to make a decent wage, which probably isn't all that great considering how much they have to spend on medical expenses. I don't know the statistics but I think that boxers are the individuals that most come out of retirement and back to work. I mean have you ever seen an athlete come out of retirement more than a boxer. They retire thinking they are set for life and realize that the money they won isn't enough so they get back in the rink for one more fight that will help them stay afloat and the process repeats itself. That someone once came up with the idea of boxing is sick. Boxing is almost as bad as wrestling, which by the way, isn't a sport either. But at least in wrestling the chances of getting killed are slim to none. I once watched boxing, when our "hero" Tito Trinidad was fighting. I guess what interested me was the fact that I was watching a Puerto Rican fighting. I can't believe I was once amongst those who actually sat in front of the tv to watch this so-called sport. No longer will I waste my time watching two individuals beat the living crap out of each other for money. This "sport" needs to be banned. It's just plain sick!!!
In other news...yesterday I received an e-mail from yet another friend who got pregnant and got married. This one was more shocking than the others because this girl is 19 years old (I think). What ever happened to: "I will never have sex until I get married". Since when did never come so soon? I mean, what's the big deal about having sex before you're married or not. Have sex when you're ready, whether it be before or after marriage. But why go around saying you will never have sex before marriage only to get pregnant before getting married. It's not sex you have to worry about; it's getting an STD or getting pregnant before you are even ready to take care of a child. And I'm sorry but I don't believe that any 19 year old is ready to have a child, not at this day and age. I mean is it that hard to find a pack of condoms or are they that expensive? From my understanding, a pack of condoms are a whole lot cheaper than a pack of diapers!!! For God's sake, use your brain, how about you start thinking like a mature adult??? Oh wait, you aren't, you're just a girl. And then you get married to the guy. I mean I understand if you were planning to get married to him and you got pregnant, but are you gonna tell me that you were ready to get married at age 19, while still trying to get through college. I mean you already made one mistake, don't compound it by making another. I mean if you were trying to hide the fact that you got pregnant before you got married, for fear of what your parents would think, well then maybe you should have thought about that before you got pregnant. Anyways, that's all I have to say about that. Best of luck to you and everyone else who has had to raise a child, while still being a child. I hope everything works out for you and your child, as well as in your marriage.
