A mixed bag for Tuesday...

When I run, I often do a "Talk Test". I mutter three syllables out loud, and if I have difficulty getting them out (or have problems breathing after I say them), it's a sure sign I need to gear down a bit.

Usually those three syllables are "I'm okay" or "I can talk". If I meet somebody on my route, the Talk Test is "Good Morning!"

Yesterday, the Talk Test syllables were "Holy shi-".

Because I saw a tarantula. Yes, I'm sure. I got a good look at it before it scuttled into a hole in the sidewalk at the Olde College Campus. It was more afraid of me than I was of it. Still, hell of a shock to see something like that...

Work got weird yesterday.

There was the woman who came in on behalf of her son, whom she called on her cell phone and then handed over to me (and, later, BossMan) to clear up our instrument return/trade-in policy. Always awkward...

And in the afternoon, a couple brought in an ISO (Instrument Shaped Object). It was supposed to be a viola. It was too long to be a violin, but too shallow to be a viola. And it was too TEAL to be an instrument, truth be told. They were looking for validation. I really wanted to tell them to get a hold of the online company/individual who sold it to them (for eighty bucks). I feel for them - they have a small gaggle of kids, I think they said five, and they're trying to get them what they can with what they have. Still. Be better with your money, get the grandparents involved, and you can get an actual instrument.

Finally, I'm trying to wrap everyone up before close, and somebody calls to ask about our keyboards. And he's a rambler. I can understand somebody not knowing that late August/early September is a very busy, not-in-the-mood-to-talk time at a music store. But I'm not sure I would have tolerated him if there was nobody there but us chickens.

Here's hoping it was just a widespread case of The Mondays, and saner heads prevail today.

There is a middling chance I'll finally get some Alone Time on Monday (Labor Day). I have the day off, Mickie may be in Watonga, and once Andy leaves for work it'll be just me and the cats.

I'm craving some solitary hours so much, the base of my spine is tingling right now. That sounds bad, I know. But I want to go down several gears and enjoy my own thoughts. Haven't had that in a while. I'll put away the computer (sorry, Lady Sally, but you could use a break too!), and I might turn off the TV (or put in Harry in Concert), and the rest is up to me.

I'd better clean the house this week so I don't have much to do...
