Why Won't She SLEEP!?!?!?!?!?

All baby books lie.

I have a bed-time routine. We play. Then we jammify and brush teeth. Two last minute potty stops, three books, ten minutes of silent reading (IN BED), a kiss, a cuddle, and Lights Out.

So far, so good.

Now all (ALL!?) the books say that this is a reasonable ritual of a reasonable length allowing a reasonable amount of necessary three year old autonomy.

But after our lovely ritual...she does not sleep.

We moved the night light away from the bed. We tried music. And white noise. We tried sitting with her.

She does not sleep. (Ok, that's not entirely fair. She DOES sleep--eventually.) She goes to bed between 8:30 and 9:00. She goes to SLEEP between 11:00 and 11:30. Almost every night. She's in there now. In the dark. Telling her pillow (HER PILLOW) a very in-depth story about Trolls. Nice trolls. Not mean, villain trolls. Those are apparently in another story entirely. She has reassured her pillow of this a few times now.

WHY WON'T SHE SLEEP??? Why, when we all know she will be miserable in the morning, will she agree logically with me; Talk calmly and knowledgeably about her need for sleep; ADMIT SHE'S TIRED; and still STILL not sleep?

The books lie.

Damned books.
