Oh. My. God. SRSLY!

I don't know if I've mentioned it here, but Chris started a new drug treatment back in July. An intravenous thing that he has to go to the hospital to have done. They said it was pricey and required pre-authorization from insurance.

They didn't say just how pricey!

Got the statement from the hospital yesterday. It's still pending insurance so we don't know just how much we will owe but . . . the total bill for ONE treatment . . . $22,000.00!!! $1000 was outpatient services, and $35 was supplies. The other $21,000 was for the drug itself. WTF!?!?!?!

There is a program you can enroll in that will give you a rebate on your portion. We need to get that application filled out right quick. Not sure how much of a rebate we'll get, but it's better than nothing. Right now, with our current insurance it looks like we'll have to pay 15%, plus we still have $150 of the deductible to pay.

He's had two treatments so far and another one scheduled in a month or so. Of course, when he does that one we will have switched insurance companies. So, re-pre-authorize and then pay the full $600 deductible plus 20%. *sigh* I certainly hope his doctor doesn't expect him to keep doing this indefinitely. It's going to be a couple thousand out of pocket each time! (Less whatever that company will rebate, of course. But that's a rebate so we have to pay and then wait for them to send us the money back.)

At least the treatment is helping!!!
