Work had been long and awful, and he'd had to skip lunch to finish up everything in order to get out of the office at a decent time. He loosened his tie and let it hang around his neck as he undid the first two buttons of his shirt to relax a little. Glancing around the aisle once more he threw in some gummy bears into his cart and filled with other junk food. He was about to head to the counters when his phone rang and he groaned as he saw his roommates name flash across the screen.
"What do you want?” Hyukjae snapped, knowing his roommate would only list a million things to eat through his pay check. He listened quietly and almost banged his head against the shelf in front of him when he heard the other’s request, as she hung up on Hyukjae. Hyukjae frowned at the phone and knew he owed his roommate and this was probably the easiest way to get out of it. Making a face, he quietly collected all the items he needed too and made his way to the counter with the smallest queue.
The queue went forward fast enough, so it wasn’t long before the cashier was scanning in Hyukjae’s items, putting them into bags.
“Hmm…” There was a rather curious, amused tone as the cashier picked up the huge box of condoms to scan in. “Stocking up? Or predicting a fun, busy night?”
Hyukjae really hadn't been paying attention to the selection of items on in his cart until he had started stacking them up for the cashier to scan. There was something odd about buying chocolate syrup, a large box of condoms, cigarettes and three bags of animal crackers. But of course the cashier had no idea he liked chocolate syrup on his animals crackers and that everything else was for his roommate. "I haven't had a busy night in a year." He quickly said without thinking before his eyes widened and he blushed slightly. "Not that... not that that’s any of your business."
The cashier laughed then, not taking any offence. “I’m sorry. I couldn’t help myself. But it is a rather suggestive bunch of items you have here.” As if to prove his point, the cashier picked up a can of whipped cream and pursed his lips at it. “Hmm…”
Hyukjae yanked the can away and put it back down on the counter. "I'll have you know that whipped cream and chocolate syrup taste amazing on top of animal crackers and the... the... large stock of condoms…" He whispered the last word, "and stuff are for my roommate. Not me."
“Oh. That’s a pity.” The cashier didn’t bother lowering his voice, chuckling at Hyukjae. “You would seem the type of person to have a fun time every night. Look’s like you’re a meanie instead.”
"I'm fun!" Hyukjae defended himself, "Very fun. In fact, so fun, that you would not need... all these things to make it more fun, because I'm that much fun." He nodded firmly, blushing and wondering why the hell he was letting the cashier get to him. He read the other’s name tag. "I'm not a meanie, Donghae."
“Hmm?” Donghae’s eyebrows rose and he chuckled. “I was going to say you were a meanie because you destroyed my fantasies. But it seems that isn’t so now. Really, how much fun are you then?”
Okay, now Hyukjae was just embarrassing himself. He pulled out his wallet and tried to regain as much of his dignity as he could. "Oh, why don't you continue to fantasize? Since that’s the only way you'll ever know." He smirked at the cashier, looking right into his eyes.
Donghae easily met Hyukjae's gaze. "There's one way I can find out a bit right now, though." And before Hyukjae could figure out what he was doing, leaned down and pressed his lips against Hyukjae's.
Oh god, oh god, oh god, oh god, oh god! Hyukjae's mind freaked out as Donghae kissed him. He wasn’t expecting that and after his remark, he really had no choice but to kiss back (that and the fact the cashier was very good looking). He sucked at Donghae's bottom lip teasingly before pushing him away with his index finger to his chest, wondering if anyone was looking at them.
Donghae licked his lips, his eyes sparkling with interest. "Hmm... that was really quite fun." But he said nothing else as he scanned in the rest of the items, packing them all into bags and ringing them up. "That will be $35.60, sir."
Hyukjae pulled out his credit card and handed it over. "Did you charge for the kiss as well or was that part of a special offer?" He asked cheekily, unable to help himself.
But Donghae didn't rise to the tease, instead giving Hyukjae his receipt to sign and handing him his card back with a winning smile. "Thank you for your patronage. See you again."
Okay, maybe the kiss was as far as Hyukjae's good luck would let him go. He signed the receipt and took his copy of it along with his card and picked up his bags to leave the store.
Donghae chuckled, watching the customer as he went. In his hands he began to play with a phone, cooing at the slick design. "I wonder when he'll realize I've taken his phone."
It was only until Hyukjae had put the bags in the car and had driven out of the parking lot that he reached into his pocket to pull out his phone, thinking to call his roommate to see if there was dinner at home, when he realized his phone was missing. He stopped the car at the side of the road and looked around his car before realizing he had forgotten it somewhere, probably in one of the aisle of the supermarket.
Groaning, he drove back to the supermarket and walked back in. Hoping the cashier was gone, he tried to remember what aisles he had walked in after the phone call with his roommate.
"Hey." Donghae smiled as he tapped Hyukjae on the back. "I think you forgot something." And he held out Hyukjae's phone in his hand. "This yours?"
Hyukjae was about to back track when he heard the familiar voice of the cashier and turned around only to grab his phone back. "Yes, thank you- wait, where did you find this?" He asked, "Did I leave it at your counter?" He wondered.
But Donghae only shrugged, waving goodbye as he walked away. "See you around."

Hyukjae had finally fallen asleep after leaving the supermarket for the second time and handing his roommate her things. He was so tired, he didn't even brother eating the snacks he had brought or dinner and just stripped to his boxers and burrowed under his blanket. Just as he was beginning to sleep deeply, he was rudely awoken by his alarm ringing loudly.
Waking up startled, Hyukjae quickly rummaged around his bed for his phone and squinted sleepy at the alert on his phone. Call Hae? What the hell was that? He sleepily wondered, closing his eyes as he shut the alarm and opened his eyes again, wondering if he was supposed to call someone from work. He quietly went through his contact list until he found the person’s number and sleepily hit call, doing this mostly unconsciously, as he closed his eyes again, phone pressed between his pillow and his head.
The phone rang once, twice, then connected. And there was a mildly amused voice on the other end. "Oh. Wow. You really called."
"Hmmm..." Hyukjae said, still half asleep, thinking this was all just a dream he was having. "Who is this?" He asked, wondering if he knew anyone named 'Hae'.
"Aw. You don't remember me? But I gave you such good service at the supermarket." You could practically hear the voice on the other end pouting.
"But I don't know a.... supermarket?" Hyukjae said, his sleepy mind trying to connect the dots, his voice showed how tired he was. "Hae... Donghae?" He said after another moment, "The kissing cashier?"
"Got it in one guess." Donghae laughed, "Hello, there. I'm afraid I'm at a disadvantage here though. I still haven't gotten your name actually."
Hyukjae smiled at that. "You managed to steal my phone but not peek at my name when I handed you my credit card?" He laughed as well.
"I'm a good servicer. I respect my customer's privacy." Donghae said, entirely serious, ignoring the fact that kissing his customer wasn't exactly respect of their privacy.
"Well you've already given me your number and stolen a kiss... I think at least dinner is due before I can give you my name." Hyukjae said, waking up a little more.
“Hmm… dinner. Well I suppose it is due. I can’t offer you much on a cashier’s pay but how does the deli near the supermarket sound?” Donghae offered.
"Well I'm not some spoiled kid you have to impress by throwing money, I like good food no matter where it comes from... so alright, that sounds nice. When?" Hyukjae asked.
“Whenever you like. I can easily take time off, I don’t know about you though.” Donghae paused, “Although tomorrow evening sounds good.”
"Luckily for you, tomorrow if my first day off in months...." Hyukjae smiled at the thought. "So dinner it is... Should I drop by the supermarket?" He wondered.
“If you do, should I come in my cashier uniform then?” Donghae teased.
"Oh, right..." Hyukjae nodded, even though Donghae couldn't see him, "Fine, I'll meet you there then?"
“Alright.” Donghae chuckled. “My dinner break’s at 7 p.m. And we can take as long as we want. I’ll get someone to cover for me.”
"As long as we want?" Hyukjae echoed, chuckling, "You seem very sure of yourself..."
“You did call me back at 2 a.m.” Donghae pointed out. “I think that signals quite a bit of interest on your part.”
"My alarm rang, I called you back in my sleep... I actually just properly woke up, so you're more lucky than I am interested..." Hyukjae teased.
“But you haven’t hung up yet.” Donghae replied seriously.
"No, I haven't..." Hyukjae confirmed, pulling the blanket over his head more, "And you making sure I call you by leaving an alert signals the interest is both ways..." He pointed out as well.
“Never denied the interest. Isn’t the first time you came by the mart. And not the first time I’ve… rang up your rather interesting assortment of grocery items. But you’re usually too tired to care.” Donghae enlightened.
"This pretty much explains why you seemed familiar." Hyukjae nodded, "The girl I share the apartment with is lazy and so to make sure we both stay alive, I always end up having to grocery shop after work... and she works from home mostly, so yeah." Hyukjae explained. “You think condoms are bad, try shopping for tampons… But you've probably seen me buy those already."
“I thought those were for your sister. Which immediately brought me to think that the condoms were for you. But your roommate is a girl. I’d never have thought.” There was a surprised note in Donghae’s voice. “But don’t worry about the tampons. Plenty embarrassed guys do it. You’re one of the few I see buy them with ease. It’s rather sexy.”
"Buying tampons is now considered being sexy?" Hyukjae laughed brightly at that. "I got over it the first time. My sister is abroad with my dad studying." Hyukjae told him, eyes opening so he could stare at his pillow.
“It takes a lot of courage and security in your own masculinity to be able to buy tampons just like that.” Donghae reassured. “Oh? Overseas? Where? Timbuktu?”
"If all else fails, I can pick up a job in a tampon company." Hyukjae joked. "Timbuktu? No, Italy..."
“Oh, really? Italy’s nice. Good climate and the Auchan is an excellent place to- Erm. I mean, yeah. It’s a nice place.” Donghae paused, then seemed to go on a different track altogether. “So. What are you doing now?”
Hyukjae blinked at all the information. "Have you gone there or do you stare at all the pretty pictures like I do?" He wondered, before looking around the room. "Um, I'm cuddled up in bed, you?"
“Haha. Gone there. Funny. Good joke.” There was a strained note in Donghae’s voice as he laughed before moving on. “Mmm… I’m cuddled up in bed too, in front of my laptop. Was playing with my phone earlier. Wondering if you would really call.”
"Hmmm were you watching porn?" Hyukjae teased, eyes closing again as he spoke to the other, feeling relaxed. "Well, it seems like I did call." He smiled.
“What if I was?” Donghae chuckled, his voice deepening. “And it was just getting to the good part when you called.”
"Oh? Well I can always call later." Hyukjae shrugged even though Donghae couldn't see him. "No, but really what are you doing?"
“Surfing. Looking at celebrity gossip. Facebooking. Twitting. The usual boring stuff.” Donghae replied. “And thinking about you.”
"You should follow me." Hyukjae smiled, "Yeah? What about me?" He wondered, sitting up and touching his hair, fixing it as if Donghae could see him before realizing Donghae wasn't there and he rolled at himself and laid back down.
“I will once I find you.” Donghae replied, once again proving himself a stalker. “I was just thinking how cute you were.”
"You think I'm cute?" Hyukjae asked, surprised. "I haven't heard that since I was a toddler." He told Donghae.
“Really? What do people usually call you then?”
"Hy-" Hyukjae cut himself off from accidentally cheekily saying this name. "Um, not too many compliments that I've noticed."
“Really? You’re hanging around people who don’t know how to appreciate good things.” There was a soft grunt as if Donghae had rolled over. “I not only think you’re cute. But sexy too. And you look really hot when you bend down to pick something you’ve dropped as well.”
Hyukjae blushed and hide himself further in his blanket. "R-really?" He asked at the first two compliments before his eyes widened. "Oh my god, you sound as if you watch me bend over a lot, which is weird." Hyukjae said, wondering for just how long Donghae had been noticing him.
“You do drop things with regular frequency.” Donghae enlightened, before half giggling. “You’re not that hard to miss Hyukjae. Besides, the only unnoticeable amusement I can get from my job is people watching. And you were my favourite person to watch.”
Hyukjae practically gloated at that. He had to tell his roommate that as soon as possible. Just as he was about to open his mouth and say something his door banged open and his roommate begin to scream incoherently at his door, making him sigh and look at the time. "It's too early in the morning for this!" He tried to scream back at her to shut her up.
There was a pause on Donghae’s end, then a comment. “Is that a… banshee or something?”
Hyukjae bit back a giggle. "No, it's my roommate. She wakes up at this time and starts her day by watching shows she makes me pre-record for her and I think a boy band she likes or something is on. Wait- Shut the door!" Hyukjae screamed, moving the phone away from his mouth. His roommate screamed at him for not restocking on cereal before shutting the door. "Sorry about that." He said into the phone.
“…At 3 a.m. in the morning?” Donghae’s eyebrow rose. “You have an interesting roommate… and the time tells me that I think I’ve been keeping you up too late. You should go to sleep.”
"Yeah, she does stuff for a morning show, I forgot what she does but she needs to be up at this time." Hyukjae sighed, "Yeah I should sleep had a long day at work."
“Ah… I see. I’ve always fantasized about what you do for work. Maybe I’ll ask you tomorrow along with your name.” Donghae confessed, and you could almost hear the grin on his end. “See you tomorrow, condom boy.”
"Oh god. Not condom boy..." Hyukjae groaned into his pillow. "That’s so awful. Just for that I wont tell you what I do." Hyukjae told him.
Donghae laughed. “It’s your own fault. You won’t tell me your name.” But he seemed to relent. “Alright. ‘Condom boy’ was just to tease. Honestly, I really called you ‘apple guy’.”
"Apple guy?" Hyukjae asked, "I mean... I do pick up an apple once in a while..." Hyukjae thought over the things he's bought over the past few days.
“Haha. Oh no. It’s not based on a thing you bought.” Donghae laughed. “Well, good night. Apple guy.”
"Um... Okay." Hyukjae said, confused. "Ah... night Donghae." He smiled, pulling away the phone to shut it.
On the other side of Seoul, a very different part of it, a man closed his phone as well, a smile gracing his lips. He lay back on his satin sheets and sighed. “Good night, apple guy.”
