You know you're having a hot flash when...

...the thermostat reads 63, but it feels more like 93.

Good morning, all, and welcome to my chemically-induced menopause. It beats the tar out of having breast cancer, but there are times when it's a mite uncomfortable, to say the least.

Neil has left for work. Breakfast was sandwiches and coffee, due to the fact that Neil had to practically dynamite me out of bed this morning. Ugh! I just didn't want to get up.

Last night, we had "Chinese-ish" food: pot stickers, custard baos, shao mai, egg rolls and rice. It's one of Neil's favourite meals, and yesterday was a rough one for him, so I figured the comfort meal was in order. He had a lot of very difficult children to place, and he was feeling frustrated by the fact that the County management seems much more interested in (stop me if you've heard this one before) saving money than in seeing to the needs of these troubled children.

Not all social workers care about the children they work with, sad to say. I guess some are cynical to begin with, but many of them start out caring and then burn out. If ever there was a cause for employee burn-out, it's this idea of saving money at any cost, even at the cost of a child or two. So, you want to save money, do you? And you think you'll accomplish that by placing an already-distressed youngster in the cheapest placement (i.e., a county foster home) you can, when their behaviour and other issues clearly indicate a higher level of placement? Oh, great. And ten years from now, when this child is grown up and in prison or in a mental hospital or on the streets, you'll *tsk* and wonder why Someone didn't "do something." Look in the mirror, bubbie! Grrr.

I sure don't have all the answers, but how they're doing things now certainly isn't.

Again, I'm expecting a quiet day today. My Quant is over half-finished, to the point where I'm thinking of the next project, which may be a hat OR socks, depending on how I feel once the Quant is off the needles. I might take a nap, too. I'm still tired.

Ah well...take care, all and Happy Friday!
