Beautiful couple, happy life

This was originally part of the last entry, but I decided it belonged on its own:

It's been a good weekend. We went to the wedding of one of my best childhood friends Saturday night. So. freaking. beautiful. His wife is gorgeous (I forgot to take pics of the couple and am trying to get ahold of some so I can show all ya'll her dress), the gardens where the wedding was held were really cool, and the party was fabulous. They had friends with a band perform, and Shep's best friend, who went to culinary school and apprenticed at Papa Haydn and is opening his own restaurant soon on Hawthorne (/shameless plug) made the cakes. Yum yum. And the feeling of happiness was just palpable. You could see how much they loved each other every time they looked at one another, and feel how much everyone there was just thrilled that they'd found each other. And at least from the perspective of knowing him, it seemed a bit remarkable. His parents divorced when we were about 11, after his dad had several affairs, and he decided that marriage was a farce. He has had several relationships, quite long-term, but always kind of danced around the idea of really settling down with someone forever. But then he met Bree, and though we haven't been in close contact for a while and so I haven't observed their relationship first hand, I could see by the look on his face that this is it.

It was everything that I would have loved for our wedding to be, and what Chie's will be if I have anything to do with it. I want her to have the feeling that we felt there: that the world is perfect, that the love is perfect, and that we all adore her, even the outpouring on that level just lasts for that one night.

Here are a few pics that I did manage to take of the evening:

I love little lights in trees like that...

I can't wait until we get all three of us looking at the camera!

Gus took this shot, and I love it.

I find the difference in our interactions with her really interesting and indicative of how we relate to her: Gus is the "fun one" and I'm the nurturer.

A shot of the tables and tent, kind of.

If you look close, you can see how cool the table decorations were. Loved the stretch fabric on the tables--like dupioni, without the frustrations while sewing.
