Here's the actual story:
http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2010/11/fbi_thwarts_terrorist_bombing.html I've been going to the tree lighting since I was five. Some years, you huddle under umbrellas crunched together in an attempt to keep dry. This year was actually quite pleasant. And this was Sophie's first year there. (Horrible fail on that front; we didn't even stop for hot chocolate, which is part of the tradition, because she was being such a stink.). But this just... ugh. We were standing so close to it, too. And it's not just the tree lighting that happens there-- pretty much every weekend during good weather (or what was supposed to be good weather) there's something going on there. Every Friday evening in the summer there's Flicks on the Bricks, where families come with blankets to watch goodies like Back to the Future. It's actually been nicknamed Portland's living room because it's such a part of our city.
I'm just glad all of my constituent parts are still together.
