A day off

It's an amazing thing to have a day off when you haven't had one in a month!  It's been a fantastic day, and mainly just because I got to spend the whole day with my hubby.  I haven't been able to hang out with him in FAR too long.  Tax season will be over in one more month, and then we can get back to some semblance of a normal life.  But for today, I will cherish it as a rare gift in the middle of a very busy time.

In the morning, there was running.  I decided to change it up a little.  Recently I've been trying to keep my pace deliberately slow, so my heartrate doesn't get too terribly high too early in the run.  Today, I said to heck with it, and set a faster pace.  When I got close to my max HR, I walked for a while, and then ran again.  When I checked my stats on the Garmin site afterwards, my average pace was FASTER than my last two runs...even with the walking!

There was breakfast at Magee's - veggie omelette for me, and we split a chocolate croissant.  It wasn't even very crowded when we got there - and usually at that hour it is.  There was a race downtown this morning (the "Shamrock Shuffle") and I think everyone came in after it was over.

I did a little maintenance type stuff at home - that's what really suffers when I work as many hours as I have been.  I filed coupons, I downloaded bank statements, I petted the cats.

We decided to do a bit of car cleaning and emptied our respective trunks.  I had three - count 'em, three - different first aid kits.  Preparedness is all well and good, but I might have been taking it a bit far.  All the medications in them (aspirins and so forth) were expired, so we tossed them and will acquire more.  I like being prepared.  I think I get it from my mom, who seems to always have anything you might need in her purse.  There's a great story of how she and Joe were on a road trip, and got something splattered on the windshield which wouldn't rinse off with water.  Naturally, Mom had some nail polish wipes, which did the trick!  (The car detailer later said that the stuff was probably brake fluid - from someone else's car, luckily.)

And tonight I am cooking dinner!  I love cooking, and I've missed doing it.  It's come together as a southern supper - red beans and rice, a mess of greens, and cornbread.

I am a very happy camper right now.
