So, I'm on vacation this week. The difference so far is that I'm browsing the net from home instead of work in the middle of the day. Not too exciting I suppose.

I spent a few hours at the pub with the usual crew on Friday night and met the owner of one of the newer breweries in town, Lightning Brewery. His place is specializing in German styles which gives him a bit of a niche in this hop-heavy town. My buddy Todd and I dropped in to his brewery on Saturday to check it out. I was interested to see his set up because he does decoction mashes which is an old German style of brewing where you take part of the mash and boil it before returning it to the tun. It adds a bit of time to the process, but makes for a real nice finished product. I've done it at the homebrew level, but it's a bit different when your brewing 30 barrels worth of beer at a time.

I had to drop the boy off at an event downtown later that afternoon which was a good excuse to check out a new bar down that way. Todd and I stopped in for a couple pints and watched the start of the World Series. It made me wish I could open a similar place and get out of that damn cube. Someday perhaps.

Sunday was fairly uneventful. Watched the Chargers throw away their game and did a lot of nothing the rest of the day. About to head out to the hardware store to pick up a couple parts for the homebrew setup, and then swing by the school to pick up the boy. Call me a jet setter.
