Let the 30 day meme.... COMMENCE!

Day 01 - Introduce yourself

My name is Paul, I'm a (very soon to be) 30 year old musician from the North Western quadrant of England. I live in the town of Warrington, which (if you look on a map of the UK) is situated at the halfway point between Manchester and Liverpool, in other words I'm perpetually surrounded by scum. Just kidding, the scousers are far enough away not to bother me, and my whole family are from Salford so I'm ok with the mancs.

I'm single, and never been married (although I was once engaged).

My first love is, without a doubt, music. I often, without even reallising, go off on tangents mid-conversation whenever a particular band or song is mentioned that I may like. I have a very wide ranging taste in music, as I believe that talent is talent regardless of which genre an artist decides to express themselves with, and so long as I can hear the presence of talent within a performance I will happilly listen to said performance again and again. Some of my favourite performers include the likes of Son House, Frank Turner, Nine Inch Nails, Gogol Bordello, The Stranglers, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Janis Joplin, Johnny Cash, Tom Jones, Megadeth, Marylin Manson, and many many more.

I also really love cinema, and own quite an extensive collection of DVDs (all perfectly legal!), and as with music, my taste in movies varies greatly. There have been some really moving films of all genres (even soppy girly films! Watch The Notebook if you don't believe, that one had me in tears), and a well made movie deserves plenty of credit each and every time. However, I am also incredibly critical when it comes to both movies and music, and I don't pull any punches when describing something I've seen or heard should it not meet my approval. A lot of people tend to umm and ahhh when asked what their favourite movie of all time is (or even their top 5) as they've seen many great movies over the years, and choosing just one is so difficult. I don't have that problem though. My top 5 (or even top 1) list always begins with The Usual Suspects, because it's simply amazing. Excellent storyline, great directing and cinematography, and excellent characters. Plus, the ending (if you've never seen it) will leave you with your mouth hanging open.

I also enjoy reading, although not quite to the extent that I enjoy movies and music. I've always enjoyed reading JRR Tolkein's novels (even if they can be a bit long-winded), Roald Dahl (every parent should read at least one of his books to their kids at some point. I recommend Mathilda), and I own every Terry Pratchett novel (have read them all at least twice too). In recent years have begun branching out and enjoying more authors, most notably Neil Gaiman and Stephen King. Currently attempting to read American Psycho, and it's good so far but the indepth descriptions of the designer labels everyone's wearing is beginning to piss me off :P

In my working life I teach new students how to play the guitar (at least I would if I had any students, they all seem to have dissapeared), and have recently been working on finding clients for simple graphics design work (so far I've had two clients: one wanting me to design a logo for a website she was putting together, and another asking me to design possible posters / fliers and EP covers for his band. Both been happy with what i've done). I'm also going to be attending college full time as of September 6th, where I'll be furthering my knowledge and experience of being a working musician, and will hopefully end up working in that capacity full time, either as a session musician or as part of a theatre's Orchestra pit.

I like tattoos and piercings. I currently have two tattoos on my right shoulder, and three piercings (eyebrow, vertical lip, and prince albert) and I don't regret any of them. In fact, I will say this to you all now, if you want to get a piercing or a tattoo at all, go for it! Just think hard about what you want though, as although you can always remove the piercing and let the hole heal up, getting rid of a tattoo is a bit more costly and painful.

And that's about it really. If anyone feels the need to ask me anything about what I've written here (or even anything I haven't written here), feel free to do so.
