I got a call from one of the jobs I interviewed for wanting to do a phone interview, which I completed yesterday. He scheduled me for a face-to-face interview on Tuesday. The job is for a bank teller position at U.S. Bank. Not my ideal job, but one that I wouldn't mind for a while. After hanging up the phone with that guy, I got another call from a woman with the Lawrence-Journal World, wanting to set up an interview for the next day (today). That job is as a "senior home delivery specialist" for the newspaper. The hours are kind of weird - 2-11 AM - but, again, it wouldn't be for forever. So that's exciting. Hopefully I'll get more interview opportunities in the coming days.
My brother was here on Wednesday. We took him to Kansas City to see the Decemberists perform. I have always liked the Decemberists, but never been a huge fan. The show was incredible, though. They came out and played their new album straight through, no pauses. They had guys running out on stage to give them new instruments for the next song so that they wouldn't have to stop playing for a second. Then they took a break and came back and played for another fifty minutes. They finished with a cover of Heart's "Crazy on You". THEN they played another three songs for an encore. It was, to say the least, pretty awesome.
Nathan will be here this afternoon. He's coming up to look at an apartment. He'll probably stay until Sunday...?
I went to the DMV this morning to get a Kansas driver's license. I wasn't able to the last time we went because their machines were down and because I needed my birth certificate and proof of residence. When we were last in Arkansas, I got a birth registration card from my mother, who assured me that it would be the same. Guess what: they didn't accept the birth registration card because it doesn't have my parents' names on it. And because they're jackasses. So now I have to wait until my mother/grandmother come up to visit next(?) week before I can get the actual certificate. Hopefully that will appease those fuckers.
The trailer for Werner Herzog's Nicolas Cage extravaganza is available here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=se9O4xmaNxc&feature=relatedIt looks as wacky and amazing as Vampire's Kiss, seriously. I am more than excited. Oh mygod, yes,Iamcertainly excited.
My interview at the newspaper is at 1:00 PM. So right now I'm just killing time and getting nervous and being ready for it to be over soon.
Holly and I went to a carnival in Topeka yesterday evening. It was pretty lame. Nobody was there, really. We went on a few rides and that was okay. The midway barkers were all yelling at me to come over and play their games. They questioned my masculinity, taunting me with the idea that I was unable to throw basketballs into hoops or knock over bottles with rubber balls. It was difficult to ignore their tortured pleas. It was like walking through Hell. We had an okay time. We had previously driven to Topeka on Memorial Day to go to the zoo, which was more fun than the carnival.
Here is a picture of Holly feeding a goat:
And here is a picture of a bat:
Take that for now. Take it.
