Beer + Drills = Bonk!

I'm here to report that drinking beer before going out for running drills is bad news, folks. See, I fell into some good old fashioned peer pressure and decided to sip on a beer at a work party on the roof of our office. Harmless, right?! Just a few sips wouldn't stop this machine....umm, wrong. I made it out to Auditorium Shores for drills...15 minutes late...but I made it. I was feeling fine in the warm up and was convinced that maybe the beer was helping! Of course until we started the hard stuff....12 fartleks, 1 minute fast x 1:30 easy. I made it through the first few feeling fine then the heartburn hit.....yikes! I felt like I'd just polished off 50 hot wings in 1 minute flat in an eating contest....no good. Luckily I had Genieva and MIke to pull me through. I was carrying the watch that kept our time and at one point I flat took it off and tried to hand it over, but they weren't having it....thanks guys. We made it back to Auditorium Shores where Irina was waiting and I told her about the heartburn (not about the beer)...she told me that 'Yes, it is very hot today.' Hmmm. Not sure if she understood that the only thing that could fix my problem was a honking glass of Alka Seltzer not an AC. Total distance for the run + warm up = 6 miles...possibly the hardest 6 miles to date.

Tomorrow I will attempt a first....a mid-week 10 mile run. And, I plan on sticking to Clif Gel, not beer, as fuel!
