Tell Me Lies

Tell me sweet little lies...yes, I'm talking to you Mr. Weatherman, Mr. Garmin and Ms. Tanita Body Analyzer (I figured Tanita has to be a Ms. because Tanita is just not a man's name).

First off, Mr. Weatherman telling me that 50 mile an hour winds were going to hit Austin at 6 AM on Saturday morning which had me totally convinced that I should just sleep in and not attempt to drive to the T3 indoor bike ride in the gusts. I probably didn't need the sweet little lies from the weatherman to keep me away from the indoor ride....everytime I started to have thoughts of doing the ride my legs would seize up and start cramping. Needless to say my 'springs' were pretty shot on Friday morning after my stellar performance at drills on Thursday. Probably because I didn't drink my Pure Sport Recovery after my hard workout like a good little triathlete, but I'm still learning. I still managed to make it through the run through the Spyglass hills in 29:01 on Friday morning, but 29 minutes is a little off my game for that run...I'm used to blazing sub 28 minute times! I digress. On the real, my legs were pretty tight all day on Friday, so the thought of indoor spin just made it worse. Irina told me to try to do my long run on Saturday, so I had it in my head to try for that. Though, with the weather predictions, I thought I may be cranking out my 9 miles on the treadmill, yuck.

Much to my surprise I woke up on Saturday morning and there was no wind, no rain, no nothing, just some dark clouds that looked a little threatening. I decided to run some errands and see if the weather help up to consider an afternoon run. Sure enough I took my chances with the dark clouds and set out for 9 miler. I felt good in the first part of the run, but the legs started to throw a tantrum at about half way into the run. My mind started in on the same tantrum and I knew that I had to turn it around if I was going to make it back home. I just kept telling myself that I could go slower, just keep moving. There were points where I felt like I was moving with the speed of a doped up snail, but I'd check the Garmin and it would tell me that I was running a 6:50 min/mi pace, say what?! Lie to me Garmin, give me some sweet little lies! Even though I knew it was off it put some pep in my step and I made it home eventually - 9.93 miles in 1:27:45 for an 8:50 min/mi pace. A little core work and lots of streching...especially the hammys...and I was done with my long run on Saturday just as Irina had prescribed.

Itching for more core work and time in the pool I made to a Body Pump class today and hit the pool in the afternoon with Jeff. Good times for a Sunday.

Oh ,and the last sweet little lie of the weekend...Ms. Tanita told me that in the last month I've decreased my % body fat by 1%, gained 2 pounds of muscle mass and gained one pound. Okay, so I'm not crazy about the extra pound, but considering the increase in muscle and decrease in body fat and oh yeah, the trip to China, I'll take it....even if it is a sweet little lie!

long run
