Weekly randomness

We had a few days with just light rain but today really waterlogged us. I'm glad I harvested most of my lavender flowers for drying because what's left are little black clumps on the stems.

Got my hair cut and re-colored today. I went more violet, less red, and like the deep red-violet color that resulted. A photo just might be forthcoming if I can get husband to take one.

Went to an awesome party tonight for
zana16, who is moving away for an internship. Seems just about all her friends are fans in various fandoms: we talked Vorkosiverse, Tolkien, and The Rabbi's Cat, and various webcomics, among others. I was also delighted to find two other A Bride's Story fans so we had a great squee over the art and the anthropological details and the characters, and may have convinced one or two others to try the manga series. And the food! The homemade ginger ale really warmed my heart (and tickled my taste buds), and there was berry cobbler, strawberry and coconut cream-cheese-frosted vanilla cupcakes, yummy wholegrain "hearth" bread with raisins, and assorted other deliciousness. Oh, and free books Zana won't have room for in her new place (I took three). I'm only just really getting to know Zana and she's leaving, which is sad, but we'll always have the Internet.

Work can stop being crazy busy any day now. Summer reading--more the volume of kids and teens getting their required summer-reading books than our actual events--is bringing people out of the woodwork. And it seems many adults have extra summer reading plans too. But it's mostly good, just a few difficult customers and a couple of Things I Should Have Been Told About In Time But Wasn't.

Today (Friday) is my best friend's birthday. I called
tualha this afternoon for the Birthday Package Opening, a tradition we both like to follow so we get each other's reactions to birthday gifts. This one was great; I had to ask, "Do you want me to get off the phone and leave you alone to enjoy leafing through your new artbook?" (Read or Die/Read or Dream, both the manga and the TV series, for those who are interested.) So good to spend some birthday time on the phone together, and talk about important stuff like how adorable Ivan was being at the moment.
