Wherein I whine about the Olympics coverage this year.

Ugh. I'm really enjoying watching Olympic gymnastics and swimming, but nightly 12:30-1am bedtimes are killing me. I guess NBC figures that everyone has a Tivo, so it doesn't matter that they're broadcasting insanely late. I know it's a function of the games being in Cnina and them wanting to broadcast live footage, but I think it's a shame they don ( Read more... )

Say, are you going to have Asher try out gymnastics when he's older? Mm, the thews on some of those guys.

Grr. Why the heck are they broadcasting it so late, then? Aggravating.

I don't think Asher is going to have a good gymnastics body type to pursue the sport seriously --- he's likely to be way too tall. Those men definitely have nice muscles, but I think they're all on the shorter side.

Right now, we're doing Gymboree, and I'm thinking of trying out The Little Gym. He enjoys climbing and dangling from bars, that sort of thing.

Both P. & I. love the little gym up here. P could use the encouragement to figure out more of how his body works, but I. need no such thing. If it looks climbable, he'll try it.

It's good to have another endorsement for the Little Gym!

Does your LG have an introductory sports class for 3-6 year olds (soccer, basketball, volleyball, some gymnastics) and have you tried it with Patrick? I'm strongly considering it for when Asher is 3.

I haven't seen anything like that at TLG, but our local Parks & Rec department does have one. I'm not sure how 'normal' our TLG is, as it's the one Robin [the founder] still works at. He's constantly bringing in / using new music / activities etc. & evaluating them. [Personally, I prefer NOT being in a class taught by him, as there's more predictability with any other teacher.]

From our experience with P's t-ball class & soccer camp, he does WAY better when parents aren't expected to participate. When we were there, P would demonstrate one single time that he could do a skill, then refuse to cooperate until a new drill / game / whatever started. Without either of us, he cooperates for the full length of the drill / game / whatever.
