Lil J has asthma

Well it looks like lil J has asthma. He was diagnosed with pneumonia this weekend (all of a sudden) and we went in for some testing today, and our pediatrician strongly feels he has asthma. No one in my family has asthma, or allergies. Not me, or my siblings, or my parents, or grandparents, or cousins or even second cousins once removed! I'm so ( Read more... )

I am sorry to hear that. I guess the asthma came from his dad's side of the family? Is he on antibiotics for the pneumonia?

I have asthma now too. I had pneumonia quite a lot as a kid. Grew up with a smoker in the house, and smoked for a number of years myself. I have always had allergy and congestion issues, but now I wake up every day wheezing and short of breath. I sometimes wish I had a nebulizer. All I have a Rx inhalers, since I don't really have health insurance yet. Right now I am on a health plan for low income working people in Alachua county. I should be getting on Mark's insurance soon. Not that I think I will ever get a nebulizer. Just like I will probably never get allergy shots. =(

Comments did not get sent to my email. Yeah J has allergies a bit. Winstons family isn't all that open with their medical histories, but it looks like W's father has asthma as a child and grew out of it. J's doesn't need the nebulizer right now, but he may again next spring.

It was about $200, so it wasn't all that bad. I'm envious of people who have health care. We've lost $$$$$ in the past 2 years because of no coverage.

A good friend of mine had a baby boy, he was a "late" baby in her family, but she was still only in her thirties. She decided to do for this baby the things she did not do for her first children. One of those things was breastfeeding ( ... )

Awesome, thanks! I'll let J keep nursing until he decides to quit (or becomes a teenager-whichever comes first LOL)

when i got a very very bad chest cold when i was younger i had to go on the steroid inhalant for asthmatics as well because i had that much difficulty breathing on my own and the xrays showed that i was having asthmatic symptoms [ie constricted airways etc] but after i got over the cold i was fine.

it just could be his pneumonia causing the issues. persist. they've also discovered that youngin's can be cured of diabetes by taking pills now. its something to do with charging up their islet cells again into working but you have to catch it VERY early on and stuff. i'm sure you can google it and find the pertient info regarding that.
