I could be considered a slasher. My favoured pairings are quite varied, you see. You want to know why? Here's a sample.
I like Angel/Kate because they challenge eachother; their emotions towards eachother can be complex and contradictory; they at some point have a common cause; they have chemistry even when they detest eachother; they can understand eachother on some deep, important levels.
I like Angel/Spike because they challenge eachother; their emotions towards eachother can be complex and contradictory; they at some point have a common cause; they have chemistry even when they detest eachother; they can understand eachother in a way others can't.
I'm not in it for the controversy, or the percieved 'activism', or the fantasy, or even just the porn. I'm in it for the characters.
