It is beautiful out today. As such, I think I might skip the gym today in favor of a hike as an alternative. I don't want to waste this beautiful weather. There's not a cloud in the sky, and the sky is bright blue with a lighter, softer hue as you look north and south. The temperature is perfect, not too hot with little humidity and a light breeze.
Maybe tropical depressions aren't so bad, if they bring us weather like this.
**Eee, the walk was awesome, guys! I saw what I thought were horsetails, club mosses, palmettos, pine cones, date palms, and some sort of conifer trees that gave me flashbacks of monkeypuzzle trees from my childhood. There were plants with bright violet berries, and I eventually guessed they might be some kind of sumac? I wasn't sure. It was fun; at one point it seemed like dragonflies were escorting me down certain paths, and I liked to pretend that some of the sounds in the brush were too large for lizards and birds and that they were actually fairies.
Dorky? Yes. Fun? Even more so.
Also, those birds at the Greenway are fearless. One flew right past my ear and scared the crap out of me.
And, and, and, there was a bat box! And some sort of water bird with a long neck and beak (black feathers) whose name I don't know. It doesn't really look like a crane, heron, or swan; it's too stout for those.
I explored three different areas or so, the last one having a gopher tortoies complete with burrow! It was the coolest thing. I love turtles and tortoises. Unfortunately when I tried to make my way back I took a wrong turn and...got...lost. Yeah. But! With a little brain power and some helpful signs indicating my position I found my way back, and saw this cute Asian guy on a bicycle on the way. By the way, there are some really nice townhouses, apartments, and condominiums down here. I sort of wanted to live in one of them.
I'm still amazed I managed to find my way back. By George, that never happens!
It smells like autumn here. You know how each season has its own scent in the air, and some days it's really noticeable? Well today the air smelled sweet and crisp and cool like autumn.
Just another reason for me find October my favorite month.
OxFam Hunger Banquet later tonight! Hopefully our first Anthropology Club event of the year will be a success.
I'm glad my body got a good dose of sun and vitamin D today.
