Saint Petersburg - an amazing place that never ceases to delight. The more we travel around the world - the more we realize that the city in which we happen to live is one of the most beautiful on the Earth. And the more you learn it - the more you like. But especially feel this when climbed out somewhere and glancing around to the full extent of grandeur. Now we'll show you this city on the Neva river how angels see him...

Somehow exactly in the middle of summer, a time when nights in St. Petersburg are most "white", we were able to visit the unusual height - the balustrade of St. Isaac's Cathedral.

1.

It is the home to 24 angel. High, approximately two human growth. Everyone is different on the face. Many are holding various attributes in hands: who with a sword, who with a cross, who with a pen. And someone with nothing, just standing in a pensive pose or just about to say something. Spirit freezes in such company - you are among the witnesses of the last two centuries. And they are from hour to hour, day after day, year after year watching everything happening around, without saying a word.

2.

St. Isaac's Cathedral does not need any introduction. Monumental building with a rich history that begins in 1707, when the decree of Peter I first Isaac's church was built at this place. The current cathedral, the fourth of its kind, had been building for 40 years and was consecrated in 1858. It is the largest Orthodox church in Saint Petersburg, magnificent and unique silhouette on the appearance of the city, one of the most important architectural landmarks.

3.

Saint Isaac's Cathedral is known not less than Saints Peter and Paul's and is the second highest building in the center of St. Petersburg after the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul.

4.

And largely thanks to an altitude almost everyone who came to the "northern capital" seeks to get here.

5.

"Isaaky", as it is popularly called, rising almost 102 meters. With its dimensions he survived while the bombing of Leningrad during the Great Patriotic War (World War II). By the way, exactly after the war, temple colonnade was restored and opened to public access.

6.

Since then and to this day there is no other panoramic viewing platform in the city center with the ability to review all 360 degrees. Its height is 43 meters above the ground. And about half of that distance more rises the balustrade, from which only angels are admiring the city. And we have made sure that it is one of the best places (and perhaps exactly the best) where you can simultaneously be in the thick of a boiling life of a metropolis, and still be distant, staying in pristine privacy.

7.

There is rife information about the history of the temple and its unique characteristics, but about that part of it where angels "live" - almost nothing. We've been trying to find any details on this subject, talked with historians and members of St. Isaac Cathedral - almost no avail. Overall, this place is shrouded in mystery. We know only that the number of angels is due to the number of columns. Ostensibly their appearance due to the need to give  some air to the top of the cathedral. Without them the cupola, which diameter is smaller than the circumference of the area with columns, is as if cut off, drowned and looked rough. Angels visually continued each column, smoothly diverting eyes from the powerful granite lines to heaven.

8.

But whatever reasonable history of those or other architectural delights, whatever importance they gave in human imagination - always one: the historical center of St. Petersburg from this height is fascinating wherever you look.

9.

10.

And even that at first glance seems formless hodgepodge of brick and tin, a closer look turn to still pleasing to the eye.

11.

12.

However year after year the picture changes, old houses are demolishing, and gradually here and there appears modern concrete giants that already cannot be named 'beautiful'.

13.

On their background begin to been lost the dominants, thanks to which St. Petersburg was always unique. However, so far to understand it - you need to fly or climb to any height.

14.

We were fortunate to see the famous city from an unusual perspective and in a very sincere company. Now you know the look of Petersburg's keepers and how they observe their favorite city, leading its unique chronicle...
