It was three in the morning. Hikaru and Akira quietly sneaked inside the mansion. The CCTV cameras are turned off for 15 minutes after three to change the recording VHS that’s why they hurriedly yet quietly went inside the mansion.

The two were already in front of Akira’s room. The only source of light that time was the nightlight. The sounds of footsteps from the other workers weren’t heard that much meaning that the other workers were downstairs.

“We still have class later in the morning. See you later,” said Hikaru. Akira nodded with a warm smile on her face, saying, “See you later.”

Akira went inside her room and prepared her own bath. She got her other set of school uniform and hanged them on the cabinet inside the bathroom. She got her towel and robe. She unclothed herself and went in the tub, having a pleasant aroma.

Four o’clock in the morning came so fast. The maids knocked inside her room. To their surprise, Akira was already wearing her school uniform, and obviously refreshed after bath.

“Akira…sama?” a certain maid asked.

“What’s wrong? Oh, please prepare my breakfast now,” Akira replied as she was drying her hair with the towel.

“Don’t you need our help anymore?” the other maid enquired. Akira shook her head, saying, “I’m fine. I’ll go downstairs in a moment.”

“This is a bit rude but…what time did you go home last night? Because your driver told us that you have stayed with your friends,” the other maid asked.

“I’ve been in our friend’s house with Hikaru-kun that we didn’t notice that it was almost midnight. Don’t worry, at least I’m here now,” Akira said.

“But what if Nishihara-sama-”

“If you won’t speak, he won’t know, okay? Don’t bother him now…he’s in a business trip, right?” Akira said.

The maids bowed in respect and went out of the room. Akira continued drying her hair. The maids find it strange that Akira, for the first time, was the one who prepared herself for school. As she got her school bag, she held the doorknob of the door of her room.

“Ah,” she said. She got a pink chequered bandage from her drawer, remembering that Hikaru still has the wound on his mouth. Before going downstairs for her breakfast, she knocked on Hikaru’s room.

“Wait a minute,” she heard him saying from the inside. She waited for a while until he opened the door. Hikaru was in the middle of dressing up that’s why his shirt was still unbuttoned. He dries his hair using the towel and asked, “Is there something wrong?”

“Uhm…yes, there’s something wrong. I think you need to button your shirt first,” Akira said without looking at him.

“Oh, sorry…” he said as he turned his back and buttoned his shirt. Akira looked along the corridor first then entered inside his room.

“Here’s a bandage for your wound last night,” Akira said, handing the bandage to him.

“I don’t need it. It’s okay,” Hikaru said yet Akira insisted and said, “No, it’s not. You got that because of me, anyway.”

“T-thank you, then,” he said as he got the bandage. Akira quietly went out of his room. As she closed the door from the outside, she still thinks of what had happened a night before-the kiss. Smiling a bit, she went downstairs.

After eating and preparing her other things, she went outside and saw Hikaru bowing to him casually like the usual yet this time, both of them greeted each other with a warm smile on their faces.

Walking at the school corridors, the two of them were casually talking yet having a warm atmosphere.

“Ne, I’m glad you put the bandage in your wound,” said Akira.

“I was just forced to,” he teased. Akira pouted and said in reply, “Well at least someone like me has to care for you.”

“Isn’t it weird that you care for me like that? I’m the one who must care for you in the first place,” he said. Akira didn’t say anything and smiled a bit.

They entered the classroom. Few students are already there including Yabu. Akira patted Yabu’s shoulder and said, “’Morning, Yabu-kun.”

Yabu smiled and said, “O-Oh…”

“What’s wrong? First thing in the morning you seemed to be bothered by something,” Akira said as she put her bag on her seat.

“It’s nothing…” said Yabu in a soft voice.

“Oh,” Akira said as she sat in her place. Hikaru, who was seating beside Akira and behind Yabu, seemed to notice his childhood friend’s grief. Smiling, he patted his shoulder without saying any word. Yabu gave a fake smile and asked, “What was that for?”

Hikaru only smiled without saying anything. Yabu knows his best friend for years that’s why he can sense it-he was comforting him. As the bell rang, it was the start of their Math class. Hikaru was seriously taking some lectures until he noticed that Akira fell asleep. Thinking that she might be tired because she didn’t get a proper sleep last night, Hikaru didn’t wake her up.

Lunch break came. Hikaru decided not to take his lunch that’s why Akira and Yabu were eating together in the cafeteria. Yabu was studying while eating his bentou since their midterms is coming. Because of this, Akira realized that she wasn’t able to take lectures not only in Math but also in their Chemistry and Biology subjects.

“Ah, I forgot to write my lectures a while ago!” Akira exclaimed.

“You were sleeping the whole morning, you know,” Yabu replied, half-laughing.

“Oh, what should I do now~” Akira panicked. Yabu looked at her, laughing a bit. It seemed to be a long time since they were together like this.

‘I think this is better,’ he thought.

Going back to the classroom, they saw Takaki and his friends waiting in front of their classroom. Akira was planning to hide and yet it was too late.

“Yo, where have you been last night?” Takaki asked.

“None of your business…stop meddling, Takaki-kun,” Akira said as she was heading to the classroom but Takaki held her tightly and said, “I’m not yet finished talking to you.”

“Let me go!!!” Akira exclaimed.

Yabu got pissed and pushed him a bit and said, “Sorry but…Akira-san never wanted to talk to a guy like you.” Takaki gave Akira a slight push and turned to the fuming Yabu. Grabbing Yabu’s collar, he said, “Haven’t we talked before, commoner?”

The bell suddenly rang, sign that it’s time for the next class. Takaki pushed him and said, “We’re not yet finished, Yabu Kouta.”

“That must be my line, you stupid rich kid,” Yabu suddenly said which made Akira to be in astonishment since it was her first time to see him like that.

A certain teacher was walking along the corridor and said, “Class 3-A please get inside now…” he saw the two who were glaring each other and asked, “Is there something wrong, Takaki-kun, Yabu-kun.”

“Nothing…” Yabu said as he fixed his collar and went inside the classroom.

“Yabu-kun!” Akira called. She bowed to the teacher and said, “Excuse me.” She looked at Takaki with both worried and angry eyes and went inside their classroom as well.

The both of them went into their proper seats. As they started the History class, Akira seemed to be worried about it. She started to become scared of Takaki again. This time, she feared him more. Hikaru noticed this and whispered, “Is there something wrong?”

“Hmm? N-Nothing,” Akira smiled as she started to write lectures.

After school, Akira was already inside the car. Hikaru was telling her schedule that afternoon on her linguistics class. Akira suddenly saw Yabu outside, walking home from school.

“Ne, Hikaru-kun…” Akira interrupted.

“What’s wrong?” Hikaru asked in a polite manner since their driver is present.

“I’m just going to talk to Yabu-kun. Mind if you wait here?” Akira asked.

“I’ll accompany you, Akira…sama,” Hikaru said as he went down and opened the car door for her. Akira called for Yabu.

“Ah, Akira-san. What’s wrong?” Yabu said.

“Thank you…for a while ago,” Akira said.

“It’s nothing,” Yabu said and turned to Hikaru, saying, “Hikaru…can I talk to you for a while?”

“O…Okay,” Hikaru said.

“Akira-san…this might be rude but…can Hikaru and I talk…just the two of us?” Yabu asked. Akira nodded and said, “I understand. I’ll just wait inside the car.”

Akira was inside the car but from the distance, she can feel that the two guys were talking seriously. She wanted to eavesdrop because of worry. But she knows that it will be impolite.

The two guys, on the other hand, were talking about a person-Takaki Yuya.

“Hikaru…what’s now your relationship to Akira-san?” Yabu asked. Yabu knows that their relationship got deeper-he can feel it. In spite of being afraid to hear those words, he still asked that question and ignored his egocentricity.

“We’re not friends…we’re not lovers, either,” Hikaru replied. Yabu looked at him. Hikaru suddenly added, “…well…we’re not yet on that stage.”

“But did you properly conveyed your feelings?” asked Yabu. Hikaru gave him a nod. Something pierced Yabu’s heart. But he ignored it and smiled, “Good…for the two of you.”

“What’s this about?” Hikaru asked. Yabu sighed and said, “Takaki Yuya…and Akira’s dad…will be your greatest rivals now.”

“Takaki is not the type who will stop. If he wants something, he won’t stop until he gets it. We’re not that close. But the way I see him…he’s like that. It’s not that I’m jumping into conclusion but…he desires Akira not as a person…but as a toy.

“Hikaru, you need to protect her now. I can’t fight for her…Akira-san is a type of person who always smiles. Just because of one person, I don’t want her smile to be razed. Protect her…because if you protect her…I can see that she’ll be happy about it.

“You need to express your feelings well,” Yabu said. Hikaru gave a chuckle and said, “Kouta, stop being this serious. I am not used to it.”

Yabu smiled a bit and said, “Is that so?”

“I will protect her, Kouta. I’m a man of my words,” he bragged. Yabu gave a little chuckle and said, “Then, thank you.”

Akira, from the car, saw the two guys having a handshake which made her curious. Afterwards, Hikaru went inside the car and said to the driver, “Let’s go back to the mansion now.”

“Ne…Hikaru-kun, what did you talk about?” Akira asked. Hikaru smiled without saying anything which made Akira pout and said, “Ne…tell me.”

“I don’t want to,” Hikaru replied. Akira pouted and said, “The worst.”

It was eight in the evening when she ended the linguistics class. She took her warm bath and dried her hair. She was already in her sleeping wear when she planned to study for the midterms. She looked for her notebooks in Math, Chemistry, and Biology but they were missing. Even her books in those three subjects are missing as well.

“Ah, I haven’t written any lectures a while ago then now they’re missing, what should I do now?” Akira face palmed.

Somebody knocked on the door. Akira said, “Get in.” Nobody spoke. Akira sighed and opened it but nobody was there. She noticed something on the floor-it was her notebooks and books in Chemistry, Biology, and Math. She got these and went inside. On the top of her Math notebook, there was a note:

‘Akira, good luck in studying for the midterms…you didn’t write any lecture a while ago that’s why I decided to do these the whole lunch break. For Chemistry and Math, I’ve made a step-by-step computation in every lesson. I’ve put some notes in your books, too. For Biology, I’ve highlighted some important terms as well. I hope that you’ll understand the lectures since it’s my fault why you weren’t able to write. Do your best! - Hikaru.’

Akira smiled and looked at her notes. The lectures were more organized than what her teachers wrote which made her feel that she could understand the lesson. Suddenly, another note fell from her Math notebook. She got it and read it…

‘By the way, let’s go on the festival this Saturday. Kouta and Megumi will be there, too…let’s just think of this as a date, ne?’

Akira smiled after reading it and said to herself, “What a romanticist.”

She studied and had a goodnight sleep afterwards. Hikaru, on the other hand, was still studying, not getting any sleep.

It was already late evening when a certain maid knocked on Hikaru’s door. Hikaru opened it and asked, “What is it?”

“Your friend is here…she insisted to see you, saying that it’s important,” the maid said.

“Who? Megumi?” Hikaru asked. The maid shook her head and said, “She said that she just got home from Australia.”

“Australia?” Hikaru said, thinking who that girl is as he went downstairs.

In the living room, he saw a girl with a long, brown hair, wearing long yet stylish pink skirt, white blouse, and fuchsia pink bolero. She was wearing a leather boots while carrying a white handbag. She was looking throughout the window, waiting. She was familiar with him. He knows that she was familiar.

“Who are you?” asked Hikaru as he went closer. The girl looked back and smiled.

“It’s been a long time, Hikaru,” the girl said.

“S…Seira…” Hikaru uttered in astonishment.

He was astonished. He didn’t expect that a certain person will come. He didn’t know what to say. Akira, that time, didn’t know that she will meet someone who will be a challenge between her and Hikaru.
