Hikaru and Akira left their two friends in the amusement park, looking worried. After that breaking news, Hikaru immediately grabbed Akira’s hand and said goodbye to the two, thinking that if they will recognize Akira, it will be a great catastrophe. He didn’t want that to happen.
He called a taxi but no taxi stopped for them. Akira was worried what will happen at home. Thinking, this is the worst. She heard Hikaru clicking his tongue, obviously starting to be pissed. Hikaru saw a taxi driving fast. He went on the road and blocked it which made the taxi to stop, screeching loudly as if it had a drift.
“That was dangerous, Hikaru-kun!” Akira said. Hikaru didn’t say anything and opened the car door for her. Akira hurriedly hopped inside the taxi.
While inside the taxi, Akira saw helicopters searching. She saw many cops, too. Sighing, she wore back her glasses and looked at her lap. Hikaru noticed the worried Akira. He never said this, but he pitied her so much. Yes, she has everything. She may be the luckiest girl in the world having such things, but there was one thing lacking in her heart-real happiness.
Thinking about that, Hikaru began a second thought. He wants her to smile. He wants her to give real happiness.
He actually thinks that Akira is a plain idiot. Above all rich people, she’s different. Usually, girls who are rich search for another guy who is richer for them to be happy. They are disgusted on guys who don’t have anything except few dimes in their pocket. They wanted more; they wanted to live like a princess.
But Akira was different; she wanted to escape from that kind of life. She never wanted to marry a rich guy like the cruel Takaki.
That stupidity of Akira made Hikaru find her interesting. Stupidity…why he thinks about that? In reality, it’s common sense to want what she has now. But Akira doesn’t want it. She just wanted the love that once she never felt from her father who cares only about the company. It’s hard to comprehend, but that’s a fact.
Akira suddenly broke the silence by saying, “No wonder my brother ran away ne~ this kind of life isn’t good.”
“Your brother?” Hikaru asked.
“I haven’t met him yet. I was only about 3 years old that time when he had a huge fight with my father. That time, I was living in California. I didn’t know the whole story but…my brother was 17 years old that time, a senior high school student. After he graduated, he decided to leave home.
“But he left home for good. Satoshi-san told me before, ‘Your brother’s last words before he left…were really surprising. He said that he’ll come back for you.’ The truth is, this is a bit strange but…I still believe that he’ll come back for me. I wanted to meet him, ne? The person I really idolize is him…my brother whom I haven’t even met.”
His perception on Akira changed a bit, thinking that sometimes, a rich girl who has everything still can be mature. Hikaru pat her shoulders and said, “You’ve told me this before so I’ll give these words back to you…you are not alone.”
Akira smiled a bit and thanked him. As she looked at the window, seeing some people walking on the street, others who are laughing together, she realized that in spite of being in such cage, there’s still a person who lend her a hand for help-Hikaru.
Hikaru asked the taxi to stop few blocks away from the mansion. Hikaru paid the taxi and immediately grabbed Akira’s hand and hide.
Few blocks away, it was the Nishihara household. There were police cars and media reporters in front having a live coverage.
“Can you climb?” Hikaru asked.
“Yes, I’ve been into mountain climbing before and-”
“That’s not important! Here’s the plan…let’s go at the back, there’s a ladder in there and we’re going to use it to climb to the second floor. The third window from the right leads us to my room. Then the rest will be a miracle, I hope,” Hikaru explained.
“Woah, Hikaru-kun. I didn’t expect that you’ve memorized such places in our mansion even though you’ve been here for less than a week,” Akira said.
“Well, that’s life,” Hikaru said, “Let’s go.”
The plan went smoothly until they ended up being in Hikaru’s room. Hikaru looked outside his window and pushed the ladder for it to fall down. As he closes the window, Akira asked, “Did anyone see us?”
“I don’t think so,” Hikaru said. He slowly took a peek outside and saw some maids going towards Akira’s room. He sighed and said, “Before you go out, I think you should stop cosplaying Hard Gay. Remove your hat and glasses.”
Akira pouted as she removed her glasses and hat, saying, “I said I’m not cosplaying.”
She went out of Hikaru’s room. Tip-toeing, she hurriedly went into the room beside her room which was the study room and pretended to study. Hikaru, on the other hand, took off his clothes and changed, saying to himself, “What am I doing?”
Akira was in the middle of pretending until she heard a certain maid, yelling, “Akira-sama is here!”
Akira sighed in relief. She pretended and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Akira-sama! We were looking for you for ages!” the other guards said. They began to feel relieved.
“Nishihara Tadashi-sama will arrive later in the afternoon. He cancelled his business trip when he knew you were missing, Akira-sama,” the maids said.
Akira didn’t feel happy about that. She knows her father-he got worried because if she’ll be dead, nobody will take care of the company. Aside from that, nothing else.
It was already evening when her father arrived. He was chased by the reporters but didn’t say anything. As he entered inside the mansion with his men, the chivalrous yet terrifying father said, “Call Akira and her butler.”
Akira arrived in the living room first. Standing in front of her father in fear, she knows that she’ll get scolded. What Hikaru planned was juvenile. She knows that her father knows what they did.
“I knew you went out. I’ve seen the CCTV cameras from our mansion how you got in. Where have you been a while ago?” her father asked.
Akira couldn’t speak. She was scared to speak. She wanted to tell that she was just at home studying but thinking she’ll look stupid, she doubted. She was also scared to tell the truth because if she does, she’ll be banned in going out-she’ll only be a school-home person, a prisoner.
“I’m waiting for your answer, Akira,” her father said as he stood up, getting closer to her. Exactly as he had said that, Hikaru arrived. Hearing everything, he said, “We went out for a while.”
“Hikaru-kun!” Akira yelled. Thinking about the reason why Hikaru have said that.
“Where have you been?” Nishihara Tadashi asked.
Hikaru bowed to Akira’s father, saying, “On behalf of Akira-sama, I apologize. We have done some reckless things which cause you to go back. I won’t let it happen again.”
“Yaotome-kun, I let you live in this mansion. You are eating three times a day. I let you study in a prominent school where my daughter attends. But caring about Akira is your only work and responsibility and yet you are careless about it?” Akira’s father yelled in and angry tone.
“I’m really sorry,” Hikaru said without raising his head.
“Father, it’s my fault. I just persuaded-”
“I’m not talking to you, Akira! If somebody’s talking, better keep quiet!” her father yelled. Akira took few steps backward and lowered her head. She was trying to stop her tears because of guilt. Hikaru was the one who was blamed instead of her. Just because of her selfishness, Hikaru was bowing in front of her father, forgetting his pride.
The thing that made her shock was when she heard movements-she looked at Hikaru who knelt down with his head on the floor, bowing and forgetting about his pride.
“Please let me prove myself for the second time. I won’t let this happen again,” Hikaru said. Nishihara Tadashi looked at him and said, “Are you sure?”
Hikaru raised his head, still kneeling. He looked at Akira’s father straight to his eyes and said those words which gave Akira astonishment.
“I will protect her for the rest of my life.”
Akira’s heart froze. She couldn’t breathe because of disbelief. Those words echoed in her mind which made her an unusual happiness. Akira’s father gave a cold chuckle. He glanced at Akira and went upstairs.
Akira couldn’t move. She didn’t know what to say. Those words, she took it seriously. From that time, she didn’t think that Hikaru is just a poor butler following her around. For the first time, she felt it-he is a special person who has a special place in Akira’s heart.
Akira was already in her sleeping wear. As the maids bowed down and went out of her room, Hikaru went inside of her room to say her schedule for tomorrow. Afterwards, he turned his back without saying any word.
As he held the doorknob, he felt that Akira wrapped her hands around his waist. Hikaru’s heart started to beat faster especially when he felt Akira’s head on his back.
“Sorry…and thank you,” she said in a mellow voice.
He felt the warmth of her embrace. Akira hugged him tighter without saying anything. Hikaru didn’t realize that he held those hands wrapping around him. He held them tight and didn’t want to let go. He wanted to feel Akira’s warmth more.
Then there was a sudden thought that hit his mind. He got carried away; he put Akira’s hands off of him and said, “This is wrong.”
“Eh?”
He wasn’t looking at Akira. He didn’t move. In honest thoughts, he wanted to say it but he can’t. He is confused about things.
Akira was waiting for another answer. She wanted to know what he is thinking about her. She wanted to open his heart for her. After what Hikaru have said to her father, she felt at ease because that someone like him exists to protect her not because of responsibility but because he wanted to.
Hikaru spoke. He knows that he’ll hurt Akira but he needs to say it.
“We live in different world, Akira. You are my boss. I’m just here to serve you as your-”
“We don’t live in different world. We breathe the same air, stand in the same place, and we see each other. We’re not different. It’s just that…we live differently…had different way of living,” Akira said.
“You won’t understand. And you will never understand,” Hikaru said as he turned the doorknob to open the door.
“I like you, Hikaru-kun.”
Akira has said those words in a soft voice yet Hikaru heard it. He wanted to look back but without saying anything, he went out of her room.
Akira wanted to cry. She knows that Hikaru treats her important, too. Akira went to bed and while hugging her pillow, tears fell from her eyes.
“I’ve said it,” she thought.
Hikaru was in his room, face palming. He couldn’t sleep. He tries to think that Akira isn’t serious at all but he can’t. With her voice, Hikaru felt that he was loved. But he needs to be realistic-Akira will be soon the youngest billionaire in Japan. He is just a weed, striving hard to live. Girls like her will surely marry a rich guy like Takaki and that fate will surely be inevitable.
Nobody can go against their fate-that’s what he believes. Rich girls love money, not a person. Hikaru didn’t want Akira to fall for him.
Love, once it develops, is like an infant-simple and innocent. Once it grows up and matures, there will be circumstances that can make that love die. There is no such thing as eternal love.
Thinking about these things, Hikaru avoided such feelings of wanting Akira so much. Those few seconds of her embrace made him realize one thing-wanting Akira so much means he is starting to have those feelings of affection.
