This is my my first post here, so, hajemimashite, minna-san! I'm actually here to ask for some help. >.< I did have a check through the memories etc, but nothing really came up.
Since you're in London why don't you go to the V&A? They've got a very small exhibit about lolita fashion at the moment which will help legitimise it to your tutor?
I'm planning to go to the V&A at half term, but I'm actually not really that near London (by England's standards) and it costs me upwards of £25 to get there, so I don't have the money/time for a few weeks. :3 Although seeing this did remind me to check the online shop for a book of the exhibition, so thank you!~ <3
Haha, no worries. I actually live in Worthing, which is possibly the least fashionable place in the developed world. We don't even have a Primark. I mean, what kind of town doesn't even have Primark? Thank you very much! Bonnets are wonderful.~<3
Thank you so much! Can I just say how lovely yours and your boyfriend's outfits are? Bonnets look awesome on you! And that's some really excellent photography. :D~<3
If you like my Chess Choco coordinate from this d_l post, please feel free to use it. The outfit rundown is also in the post. No credit is required --- I mean, you're just going to be showing these to your teachers, right? :P
Yes! Thank you! You look really good in Chess Chocolate. ^.^ It's because I have to do a bibliography of all the images in my sketch book, so I'll just credit with your LJ username. :D
Oh, good, I thought I'd done something wrong. xD Thanks for letting me know.~<3
Maybe to legitimize it, you could show her some publications, such as the G&L Bibles or the Gothic and Lolita book?
I'm kind of weirded out that a fashion instructor wouldn't know of a popular fashion subculture, since I feel that since mainstream fashion gets influenced by fringe fashions, that's something they'd usually keep tabs on or at least know of.
I have 1 & 3 of the American version, and I just downloaded 38, 40 & 42 of the Japanese publication to show her. They have the Gothic and Lolita book in the college library, and apparently I'm the only person who's ever taken it out. xD But my American Bibles are obviously very outdated and I need proof that it exists somewhere other than Harajuku. xD
I was kinda surprise that she hadn't heard of it *at all*, but Lolita is so very rare over here, and it often mostly gets mistaken for New Romanticism or historical costume anyway so I guess I can kinda see why. My tutors all freelance for big name European/American designers (Prada, Gaultier, Louis Vuitton etc), and that's what 95% of high street fashion (in England, anyway) seems to be based on. The only Japanese fashion my tutors are really aware of are Japanese couturiers that operate in out of Paris like Commes des Garcons and Yohji Yamamoto. Like, I said "Angelic Pretty" and "Moi~meme~Moitie" and she just looked at me blankly. I was like "WHAAAAT?!". xD ~<3
Ah, I guess it really might be a location thing, then. I guess I was surprised because I'm in fashion design as well, and I'm pretty sure my teachers know what I wear. But it's in San Francisco, so that's completely different.
Most likely. Lolita seems to be far more common in the States (maybe because you're much closer to Japan?). We have like nothing over here, at least as far as I can find. Aren't there a couple of burando shops in San Fran? :3 ~<3
