Ninth Episode: Excalibur
Oh so Arthur wasn't Crown Prince before. Oops.
The Black Knight appears...how dramatic...
Owyn? Owan? seems to be considerably less well armoured than his opponent. Seems a little uneven...
Where was the sound effect of sword shearing through chain mail and body? Come on...am I getting a crappy quality version or something?
Why go with wraith? Surely we can do better than hold onto Peter Jackson's and Tolkien's coattails.
ARGH that edge-on-edge close up...THEY SHOULD BE TAKING CHUNKS OUT OF THEIR SWORDS!!!!!
Ah, there we go, Pellinor getting stabbed got a sound effect...
HIYAH!!! Merlin used the RING OF FIRE spell!!!! WOOOOOOOOO!!!!

It didn't do anything this time, but we have a precedent! More burning I say!
Arthur's current sword is interesting...but I want to see Excalibur. And I'm thinking, based on the lack of guns and full plate armour, it should really be pattern-welded...though they could have blast furnaces, it's hard to tell...
Merlin and Gwen talking and the granting anything and the snickering...
Nice that there's a brilliant sword just sort of lying under a bed.
Excalibur is purdy. If a bit generic. And I kinda wish they'd brought in the Lady of the Lake...I like that element of the story...
I take it back. That sword looks blunt! Especially the tip...
Uther/Anthony Head looks good in armour. I like the similarity between his helmet and that of the Black Knight/Tristan. He's also had good fight choreography.

Ah I see. Merlin has to give it to the Lady of the Lake I suppose...
Uh...that lake is the one the Sidhe were at. It can't be all that far away...
BAH! Where's the elegant arm reaching up out of the water to catch it? BAH!

Tenth Episode - The Moment of Truth
Hello, here comes the Seven Samurai/Magnificent Seven story...
The bandit leader...argh what's the actor's name...he's pretty awesome anyway.
Anthony Head is the best thing in this show. Excellent as Uther.
o.O Why is Gwen in a position to give away really expensive armour and a sword?! In fact, since he's incompetent, why not just give him an axe or spear? He'd do better with it and it's less costly...
Simply-clothed Morgana is waaay more attractive. Warrior woman factor I suppose. Though I do wonder how she learned to fight...
HE MADE A DRAGON OUT OF THE SPARKS! YAY!
I'm betting these horse sounds are Arthur...yes of course.

Hrmm...Morgana. Sword. Choppy. HOT.

I don't really think that axe would help with cutting down a tree, either...
Also, Morgana's accent gets better every time. Massively grows on you...

OK now it's EXACTLY the same as the 7 stories. Waiting til they ride in, blah blah blah...
Ooooh ouch, The slow-motion impact of the guy getting dragged along by his horse looks painful...
Arthur should've gutted Canen or whatever his name is right after the wild axe swing...
So now Will is going to say "it was me" and Merlin's secret will be safe again...which kind of makes the whole thing a bit too neat...
Pretty easy death, really...
Man mum, could you push your son at Arthur any harder? Jeeez...
Eleventh Episode - The Labyrinth of Gedref
It's a unicorn. With a massive fringe...
Dum dum DUUUUUM...legends are serious business apparently...
Wow, Uther's execution-happy...really likes decreeing the punishment of DEATH!!!
No wonder everyone hates magic so much, every time it appears people suffer. Kinda undercuts the whole 'magic isn't implicitly evil' message...
So the first quest was easy and a wee bit obvious...
"We don't negotiate with terroris-er...uh...I mean sorcerers..." <.< >.>
Oooh Merlin's own little Avada Kedavra spell. Funny how he only uses these things at unimportant points...
They got a LOT of meat off that rat...it was fat, but not THAT fat...
The "he wants another son" taunt rings hollow after the emotional moment earlier. It would've worked BEFORE the whole Black Knight thing but not so much now.
The tests are just too obvious. Even for the sugar-induced high I'm on...
Uther really is the Perfect Bastard.
Merlin followed him? What a SHOCK...
Uh oh, here we go...why Merlin doesn't just use a spell to locate Arthur I don't know...
I do like the hedge maze though...always wanted one of those...
Nice predictable sequence...and I bet the unicorn comes back to life...

Twelfth Episode - To Kill A King
Oh dear. "We're going to be alright". Uh oh.
New guy (Tauren?) looks cool.
Hmmm alchemy...
This is getting silly. Just tell Morgana you're a warlock, boy! Then everything will be easier...
This is why locking up smiths is a bad idea. All that hammering gives them strong arms, so beating up your guards is easy.
Hmm that death was unexpectedly fast...
Oh the T word comes out. I've been waiting for that...
Tauren is definitely the coolest villain yet, except maybe Nimueh and that's a whole different dynamic. Interesting that he's the first "western" looking character with a curved blade...
One gets the feeling that Uther's death would be the beginning of a whole new wave of problems...
After Uther's performance against the Black Knight, Excalibur or no, I can't help feeling like he's got more of a chance than the ambushers have assumed...though sorcery might do away with that...

This deep and meaningful thing between Morgana and Uther is...interesting. I guess it makes Uther less reprehensible but it stretches his character a little...
