Improvements in prototypes.

I couldn't resist trying out the pink over the top. I'm feeling like I want more width of this material to make more abundant pleats. Perhaps I should consider letting that go, I"m not in the business of making pleated fabric.

I changed the shape of the proto drastically. When I direct draped I realized that the amount of fabric I was short to reach the underbust was only directly below the bust point. When I added inches, it was to the entire bottom edge of the pattern piece. Bad monkey, no cookie.

The shape of the bust is curved, and the pattern piece started out flat, not similarly curved. That is now fixed. The neckline is still silly looking and rather floppy, but an improvement. Thank you corsetra for reminding me to stay stich, or stabilize. I'd forgotten. I always do.

So the wrap effect is also smaller than I originally drafted for. This is not a problem, just an interesting observation. Also interesting to realize that my tape pattern requires less dart control when compared to this slinky fabric. The widest measures line up correctly however. I may make a separate skirt for this dress. I defiantly want some stabilizing in the hem, to keep it away from the ankles.

I plan on wearing it for my may day celebrations that have been shelved since I was insane with life. I've been meaning to and attempting in one way or another to make a v- necked style 'goddess' dress for several years, but I wasn't patient enough to mange the fabric well. I also was timid with my patterns. It's funny how making super close fitting garments liberates your brain to tackle the exact opposite of voluminous and slick handed fabrics. The pattern doesn't feel so impossible as when I played with it a couple years ago.
