Sewing State

This week has been adventuresome. Dorien and Allia have the Crud. Paul visited the doctor on another appointment and Dr. Olsen says two weeks. So we're through week one, and I'm getting a sore throat. Yeah for Christmas vacation with a cough! It's going to be mine.

Yesterdays trip to the E room over Dorien's abdominal pain and labored breathing resulted in no serious issues, just a big hospital bill. I've had Ian in the hospital for asthma related issues earlier this year though this was triggered by something other than asthma. He's right as rain since the visit. Had me in a bloody panic. I'm glad he's alright, but not looking forward to the bill in any case.

I've spent a few dollars on holiday gifts and probably will run out of money before I run out of sentiment. No offense to those I render gift- less. It's one of the few years in the past five or so that I've managed things for anyone. At least It'll give me an idea of a savings plan for next year.

Sewing projects are backing up like crazy. Amber's Corset is beautiful, looks like the texture of a white rose petal. Very nummy, I hope that the shaping is satisfactory to me. I keep worrying about it. I now am the proud owner of a tapered awl, so I will have an easier time setting eyelets if I should ever find the top of my sewing table again.

My skirt is such pretty fabric! It's amazing what decent fabrics will do to elevate the feel of something. I was frugal, though, and got my materials for about $4/ yard for the new, used fabrics for about $2/ yard. The silk was my splurge at $9/ yard, and enough for an Italian gown of one sort or another. Maybe a coat to go over it in the butterscotch. With chocolate brown faux fur lining. Mmm. Or possibly pink delustered satin outside instead. I just can't decide! And may not be able to by the time I get there.

So, victorian is going well. Coat is well shaped. Need to start cutting *eep* velvet for it. And figuring out the drape on the back. I'm woeful at arranging draperies. I'm sure I'll just put it up with some safety pins. Must do a trial in some of my raspberry colored sheeting. I'll use it as underlining if it looks alright for shape. I'm sure the velvet won't complain.

I have left to do the bodice insert. I'll just be adding it over the front of the velvet, rather than joining the two pieces. I'm not sure, but I think it'll be easier to assemble it on the front rather than a separate seam. When all else fails, basting spray.

Dorien has his own room now as well. I got it sorted out, though the detail work isn't finished. I still have to decide if I'll be doing the mosaic themed border at the top or if I'll just cut in to the ceiling with more cobalt. I also have draperies that the young master wants for his bed. I'll be painting those as well with more kelp effects. I also have the bedding for his room all picked out, but with six inches of snow in the Burien, and heaven only knows how much elsewhere, I'll not be leaving for a couple days.

So. Cleanup continues. Corset will be finished soon. Skirt will be mounted, probably just on twill tape since I have so much in this terrible sherbet orange color. And who wants to cut more brocade for an invisible waistband? It's just not thrifty. Then Coat. Then Drapery, and possibly bed hangings. Well shit, looks like I should finish cleaning....
