Potato 2010 February Translation - Nino & Jun

Mar 27, 2010 23:32

So I'm finishing up the February issue of Popolo
I had some extra time on my hands and wanted to translate, so here I am!

Please don't take this out of my journal without my permission.

DO NOT claim these as your own. I spend a lot of time translating these, please be respectful.

My notes are in italic like usual

T/N!!: The word 約束 (yakusoku) means 'promise', but in Japanese can also mean something similar to plans made with your friends/family. For example, if someone asks you if you want to go out to eat but you already have plans, you could reply something to the extent of "ごめんね、約束があるよ" (Gomen ne, yakusoku ga aru yo "I'm sorry, I already have plans") So please keep this in mind while reading this as the interview spans many different ways to interpret the word "promise" in Japanese.

Enjoy!

[Ninomiya Kazunari]
[In general, I don’t like making promises]

Do you keep promises with people?
Basically, I can’t keep them so I don’t like making promises. So I don’t make promises as much as possible. I mean, even though I’m happy if I’m contacted by a friend the baseball schedule has been decided, there’s always some stress during the actual day. And, there’s also a chance that I might have to cancel. I feel like a bad person (laugh). (Sad.. :\) Ah, but I’ve never thought that it’s okay to break them, so don’t misunderstand me! Memorizing my business promises makes me 30 minutes late. At that time I and my manager are in a pretty big rush.

What are some Ninomiya family promises / rules?
Rules? There aren’t things like that. I’ve never really been given things like orders from my parents. I’m definitely kind of a difficult person, I know that when I’m told to do something I rebel against it, so I think my parents just didn’t say anything to me. If I’m told to do something I won’t do it, and if I’m told that it’s okay if I don’t do something then I still don’t do it (laugh). (Then what exactly DO you do, Nino? lol) But if I decided to do something myself then I definitely do it.

What are some promises within Arashi?
To me, I really don’t have a good image of promises, so I can’t even think of making promises with Arashi. Well, if there was a promise that I would get an allowance from all the members every month, that would be pretty fun (laugh). (OMG Nino seriously you are a jerk lol) (When he is told about Leader’s promise to treat the members…) He’s always saying stuff like that. We don’t go out to eat with Leader a lot, so I don’t care (laugh). The other members say that they treat him and get treated by him.

What is a promise that you hope your future wife will make?
With the exception of time with the two of us, I’d like them to set aside some time for our own time (laugh). By nature, people don’t really like leaving things alone, and she has to understand that. Right, to have everything go smoothly, it’s better to just do things slowly (laugh).

Make a promise to the readers of 2010!
This year’s promises, hmm what are they? I’ll do my best to move. I’ll do my best at work~! And… again, I’ll to my best so we can have another concert! Right now Nino-chan said something good (laugh). I’m looking forward (laugh). (…..he called himself Nino-chan. T^Tb)

Your recent state?
At the end of the year, I’ve been filming for Arashi’s drama and “GANTZ”, so I don’t really have any time for myself. I’ve been feeling like it’s really a movie set while doing “GANTZ”. Cuz honestly I haven’t really done a whole lot of movies. At the filming for “Saigo no Yakusoku” I talked a lot with Fujiki-san (Naoto) and Otsuka-san (Nene). During that period, we were really busy and would wake up at 5 in the morning and be done around 6 in the evening~. I would go to sleep around the time that “Mezamashi TV” was starting. The secret to being healthy was… I guess giving up on one thing (laugh). If you did that, you can be healthy. In “Saigo no Yakusoku” I was with Fujiki-san who played my senior at the security center, but there weren’t many times when I was able to spend time with him. I guess Fuji Television has said that if they call it an “Arashi drama” it will sell, but I don’t think it can be just called an “Arashi drama”. I think everyone truly played their parts, and well… if you don’t watch it you won’t know (laugh). So, please look forward to it!

[Matsumoto Jun]
[I want to do lots of concerts this year too!]

Do you keep promises with people?
I think there is a side of the world that consists of promises, but I don’t really making promises to go out with friends or to have dinner. Even now, when I get invites to end of the year parties or new year parties, I answer them with “If I can go, I’ll go”. Generally I answer most promises like that. It also depends on how I feel that day, and when the time comes but I hate having no motivation to go but going anyway. Well, if it’s a reeeally laid back promise, then I can change it or cancel. What I like is on the day of, my friend contacts me and it works for me too, then I gather the other members that can go and finally we can get reservations at a good restaurant. That’s the best (laugh). That’s pretty tough though, and it’s more likely that my friend and my schedules don’t match up.

What are some Matsumoto family promises / rules?
I was brought up with rules about how you should only have the things that are essential, but there weren’t really a lot of rules. I wasn’t really told about taking responsibility for things or minding your manners. (OH. Everything makes sense now, Princess lol)

What are some promises within Arashi?
Recently there have been work related things, so we have been together a tremendous amount but even during when we don’t have any time I want to go at least once with the members to eat some food. This year was also our 10 year anniversary, so we were able to do that. Even though between the members we didn’t really “promise” to do it, everyone does it moderately.

Make a promise to the readers of 2010!
I won’t be able to do this until it actually happens, but I am going to persistently go after doing a tour. Arashi is able to have concerts every year, and I really take the fact that we can communicate directly with the fans as something very important. Also, the biggest job is doing concerts that we can make with our own power. On both sides, I think that concerts are really important. Last year’s tour too, we truly went to so many places and I thought that we conveyed our thanks to everyone for our 10 year anniversary. But we had a lot of individual activities, and we had a lot of other various 10 year anniversary events, so we couldn’t go to more places. That’s why I want to challenge that in our 11th year. Even if we have to go somewhere that is pretty far away, my hope is that we can make going to see everyone come true.

What is a promise that you hope your future wife will make?
Well, I can’t imagine what I’ll be like in the future, but I’d like her to make her own food as much as possible (laugh). It doesn’t have to taste like restaurant food, homemade flavor is good. And, occasionally I’ll help out too (laugh).

Your recent state?
I was really shocked that we weren’t chosen for the “Johnny’s Athletic Meet” (laugh). Even though I told the members and senpai who were also going at the countdown that I was really excited for it… I think it had to do with my schedule, so it couldn’t be helped (laugh). We were filming for “Saigo no Yakusoku” until the middle of December, and before that I also had “Wagaya no Rekishi” and, well… I was busy. Me and Meisa-chan (Kuroki) focus on dramas, so for the both of us to have strong willed characters was really fun to play (laugh). The situation in the drama is set in a building where people work, so the location didn’t change and we were able to concentrate and shoot it which was good. It felt very speedy, and I think you’ll be able to see it all come out in the show.

Aiba's Interview

Sho's Interview

Ohno's Interview

Also. I managed to watch the first half of the debut in Hawaii video, and just finished the part where Jun is on drugs and wakes everyone up. I've seen this video countless times, but I seem to always forget about this part:

HOW ADORBS IS THIS??
I demand more Arashi sleeping together videos!!

Oh yeah, and:

It's okay, Ohno. We understand.

I think this video is in some serious need of spazzcrack-ifying.
