weeding the garden

I thought I had planted 3 passion flowers in a row against the side wall in the back. One of them was growing so wonderfully that it overshadowed the others but I let it go since I believed it was going to be a super strong and healthy passionflower (and I love passion flowers!). This week it started to flower and I knew something was wrong. I finally got it together to do something about it tonight. I had to hack and hack and pull and pull but I got it out. It has sharp ridges on it's stems that tear at your skin - nasty noxious thing. The prickles don't look very big in the photo below they they can catch on your clothes really easily. It has to be handled with gloves.

After searching the internet tonight for a couple hours I finally found out that it's called Japanese Hops.

What's left of the poor little real passion flowers can grow OK now I hope.
