comfortable old hands

I have been thinking about how to make this photograph all day. How to get both hands in (what will hold the camera?) I just wanted to commemorate this month or this week by showing my hands. I change my rings periodically - sometimes I wear the same rings for months, even years at a time. But recently I have been changing things around. About a month ago I took the face ring off my left hand and replaced it with that peridot ring with my brothers ashes under the stone. Yesterday I added the stack rings with it. And today I put on the oblong green enameled tree and the pinky ring on my right hand. That black ring on the right ring finger has been there for many months. The pinky ring probably won't last very long but all the other rings might stay for a while - they will be my spring of 2010 rings at least. My hands "feel right" for now.

I don't mind my hands getting old and thin-skinned and wrinkly. They still feel pretty strong and capable and that's what counts. I used to not like my pointy little hands - used to wish I had long graceful fingers. I have always admired hands with big knuckles and spatulated fingers for some reason (I don't have them though). But I have come to accept my small tapered (pointy) fingers now as perfect for me (useful even though they are small) and it's ok.
