I've been getting into a new habit (maybe it's the long summer days affecting me) of going to bed later - around 11 and then getting up at 5:30 in the morning to feed the indoor pets and open the door for the chickens. After I get that taken care of I go back to bed till around 8. Not taking much of a nap - usually just a 10 minute laydown in the afternoon.
I hadn't planned on cleaning this area up today but I have been pining for a better, bigger place to paint and after we got home from seeing Chloe at the Grill and Chill in Cranberry and I had had my 10 minute laydown it just felt like the time had arrived. I had already cleaned a lot of clutter off the table before I decided to get this progress picture.
As I was clearing stuff off I came across a book I had created back in August of 2021. I was all excited then by an artist's book I had been reading. I can not remember the name of the book or the author's name but her premise was to put some collage on paper, slap on some paints, make a book out of the painted collaged papers, and then go from there adding more collage and more paint and words. I liked the idea of adding words and made the book that I called "Letting Go" where I used more experimental type stuff; jelly gouache, dry wall plaster, alcohol inks. The above page spread was one of the last things I did in it around July of 2023. I had almost totally forgotten about the book since then. I had been trying to do more "thoughtful" things with this book and letting go of old ways. It seemed like the book appeared today just when I was wondering what I was going to paint in next.
All cleaned up and organized. Before I start back on the book I want to put some sealer on these rocks. I started them and never got around to adding more dots. I pretty much liked them at this minimal point.
I don't think the one in the top right with more dots is that much better than the other ones with less. In my opinion.
